The homophobic thread :>

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

School Cancels Reading of Jazz Jennings’ Book Following Threats from Anti-LGBT Group

A school in Wisconsin cancelled a reading of transgender activist Jazz Jennings’ book after an anti-LGBT group threatened the school with legal action.

A letter was sent home to families at Mount Horeb Primary Center last month, informing parents that Jennings’ book, I am Jazz, would be read to their children to better understand a transgender student in their school.

"We believe all students deserve respect and support regardless of their gender identity and expression, and the best way to foster that respect and support is through educating students about the issue of being transgender," the letter explained.

According to Seventeen Magazine, a group of parents reached out to the Liberty Counsel, an infamous anti-LGBT organization. The Liberty Counsel was quick to take action against the school, threatening legal action and calling the reading a “propaganda session.”

The Liberty Counsel recently made headlines as Kim Davis’ legal representation....
Heartwarming Story of the Day: Outpouring of Support for Transgender Youth in Wisconsin Town

Last night, nearly 600 people gathered at a public library in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, to show their support for transgender inclusion in their schools and community.

The parents in the community hosted a reading of I Am Jazz, a book by transgender teen and HRC Foundation Youth Ambassador Jazz Jennings at the Mount Horeb Public Library.

The event occurred after a school in the area cancelled a reading of Jennings’ book last month after the notoriously anti-LGBT group Liberty Counsel threatened the school with legal action. The school wanted to introduce the book to the students to better understand a transgender student in their school.

Parents, children, and school staff filled the library, showing support for transgender inclusion and respect. According to Wisconsin State Journal, the organizers expected only 15 people....
Mount Horeb is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,009 at the 2010 census....

Bigotry and censorship backfire, again.

Liberty Counsel, defenders of the same bigoted county clerk you defend, threatened to sue. Comprehend much? Plus, one can be a bigot whether "merely protesting" or suing. English much?

Every student was denied the reading thanks to the success at achieving censorship within the school. It's hilarious that a so-called journalist doesn't even know what censorship is.

If they did the same regarding teaching equality regarding skin color or religion, few would argue that it isn't bigotry. This case is no different.
Seth Milner wrote:Censorship? hardly.
Legal threats - "Do as I say or I'll bankrupt you with legal fees regardless of who wins" - is more than merely protesting. It's your drastic measures, and it's censorship.
You mean like the FFRF and the ACLU do? No difference, that I can see.

They haven't. They don't want anyone taking out the trash until everyone has had the opportunity to go through it. But, everyone has their own opinion as to what trash is; hence "one man's trash is another man's treasure".

I should have expected such a reply. In your world, parents do not have the right to censor or refuse what their children view or are taught in school? Until that child graduates and leaves home, their parents have every right to exercise their beliefs, personal opinions, parenting skills, etc. As I said earlier, I would have discussed the situation with my kid(s) and we would have made decisions then. IF I was vehemently opposed to their participation, that would have been my right as a parent; that's not censorship. My kids would not have told me they were going no matter what I thought or felt; nor would I have just shrugged my shoulders and said "whatever!".
The fact that many showed up in support of Jazz merely shows the diversity of opinions in our society; nothing more, nothing less. Reading/viewing material that one considers is trash, is milk and honey to others.

Maybe, but a few parents shouldn't have the right to censor what affects everyone else. Let's say I'd like my kid taught sex education using the Kamasutra as a text. Do I have the right to insist they use it for everyone? Or should I let them teach whatever they want and supplement at home for my own kid? What's wrong with telling kids from kindergarten that in their lives they'll hear and read a lot of stuff, not all of which is true or accurate or age-appropriate or unoffensive, and they'll need to learn as part of their education to filter?

In Seth Milner's world, parents should have the right to censor or refuse what their and other children view or are taught in school, not just that transgender people exist - a sociological and scientific fact - but perhaps also evolution, the Earth being more than 6000 years old, accurate history and civics, etc., and even the definitions of "bigotry" and "censorship". That's the logical conclusion of his "reasoning" - make public schools conform for all students to his prejudices

The best way to get a kid to read a book is to tell them they cannot or it is banned.

Heartwarming Story of The Day-- -- Vrede too Can't Comprehend Written Words
Vrede too wrote:I'll bet I am Jazz has sold out in southern WI thanks to the Seth Milners there.
He fails to understand:
"Some people, especially those in Small-Town, USA shun stuff like that because of their personal religious convictions. Unless they took drastic measures to stop the reading, other than merely protesting, that doesn't make them a bigot. Censorship? hardly. The school board should have donated Jazz a soapbox. In that way, anyone wanting to hear about his/her "journey" can do so at their own discretion. People don't like adversity shoved in their faces; it's that simple. If a kid of mine was in that school, he/she would have had a choice whether or not to attend. It's that simple."

(I've underlined the words or phrases that you didn't understand. You don't have to thank me; I did it out of the kindness of my heart.)

As you were utterly wrong on the "not a bigot" and "not censorship" parts, I assumed you were "just joking" about the rest too.

Oh no; no joking. I'm aware that left-wing-nut liberals 0:-?> label any opposing views as utterly wrong, bigoted, and/or a form of censorship.

You're always correct and no one else's opinion matters. :-||

"Douchebag" then.

Which also applies to someone who won't defend, let alone acknowledge an offensively stupid post, because the other person once made a typo.

Or taking it a step further: Having made an offensively stupid post, insulting the person who points it out because a *different* person once made a typo. That takes an extra-special kind a douchebaggery.

You win, Seth; you're a douchebag. Thank you for correcting us.

At least a douchebag is sanitary, as opposed to you asswipes. Thanks for pointing out that your poor widdle self was offended. This is the year for it, you know; can't wait to see what 2016 offers. As far as pointing out typos, speak to your protégé who's always typing "(sic)". You're both definitely "different".
