Finally, I found the war on Christmas

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

When I was real young I used feel bad about beating it on Christmas, because I felt that since it was Jesus's birthday I ought to have waited till at least the next day, since Jesus frowns upon the act and knows when you're doing it.

Merry Christmas everyone.

According to Gopstein, Christians are “vampires and blood suckers” that must be expelled from Israel, the U.S.’ closest ally. “Let us remove the vampires before they once again drink our blood,” he wrote in a recent article on an ultra-Orthodox website.

Gopstein, a religious extremist also known as “Benzi,” calls “the Christian Church” Jews’ “deadly enemy for hundreds of years,” which has used “the maximum tools at its disposal to destroy the Jewish people.”

He laments that the “disgust” for Christianity “has disappeared with the ‘good life’ of the democratic age.”

Gopstein has a long history on the far-right of Israeli politics. In the past, he has publicly insisted that setting fire to Christian churches in Israel is justified.

Lehava is infamous for violently harassing and threatening Israeli Arabs who are in relationships with Israeli Jews. In the name of fighting “harassment,” the far-right group created racist beach patrols in order to prevent Jewish women from interacting with Arab men.

Its members have also set fire to and vandalized the few remaining bilingual Hebrew-Arabic schools in Israel, and yet are often not charged with hate crimes.

Not sure why faux doesn't go after these people.

Their claim of "chosen" does make this one of the leading religions of hate.

I found this piece in an article that LINK Wneglia posted once before concerning the war on Christmas:

Congressman Buck McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, said rules prohibit congressional leaders from sending their constituents any religious happy holiday greeting.

"We can't say Merry Christmas, we can't say Happy Hanukkah, we can't say anything that even alludes to a religious celebration or specific holiday greeting. We can't even use the colors red and green," he said. "Are these great American holiday traditions next to go?"

"There are people who are trying to force religious neutrality, and that's never going to happen," "There are at least as many people who respect the traditions as there are people who don't respect the traditions."

Even nonbelievers often adhere to the Christian-rooted traditions of America.

"If you look at American culture, officially: `Congress shall make no law that governs religion.' But historically, the United States was settled by Christians, so there's a level at which our daily life is influenced by that,"

Yet that doesn't prevent the yearly battles over the holiday symbols -- even when those fights appear to be resolved.

That's ridiculous. It's not like Congressmen were government officials or anything like that. Or that their postage is franked and paid for by taxpayers. Come back when you've got an article that says they can't send Christmas cards or greetings on their own dime (or 50 cents, whatever) to their friends, family who may or may not be constituents.

You might want to check the origin of that statement. They may be mistaken.

Of course, it might not be a bad idea if Congress could not make any law that governs religion. That would eliminate the religious anti-discrimination laws, making it possible to fire the Seventh Day Adventist for not working on Saturday. It would also eliminate the parts of the tax code that keep churches from paying for their property or their revenue. It would mean that without specific laws applying to religion, churches would have to follow the non-discrimination laws applicable to other businesses in hiring, etc. and might end up with a gay Jew being music director.

And the pagan-rooted traditions. For Christmas alone that includes things like the solstice date of Christmas, Santa, Yule logs, Christmas trees, mistletoe, stockings by the fireplace, etc. Not to mention Easter's pagan fertility rite symbols (eggs, bunnies), Halloween symbols and more.

Beyond that, other pagans - the pre-Christian Romans, Greeks and Egyptians - gave us the very foundations of society, culture, science, philosophy, literature and drama.

Christian traditions will survive among non-Christians just like all those pagan traditions will survive among Christians. Agreeing to meet on Wednesday (from the Old English "Wōdnesdæg") doesn't make you a follower of Woden (the Germanic version of Odin) any more than wishing someone a Merry Christmas makes you a Christian. (I'm pretty sure that even most non-religious people think that using "X-mas" is just plain silly.)
Seth Milner wrote:"If you look at American culture, officially: `Congress shall make no law that governs religion.' But historically, the United States was settled by Christians, so there's a level at which our daily life is influenced by that,"
Of course. But also historically, the United States was settled by people fleeing persecution. That includes the Pilgrims on the Mayflower, fleeing religious persecution from a branch of Christianity almost identical to their own. One more time, that official state religion - even when its Christianity - is very bad for Christians' religious freedom.

At a time when Christianity is rapidly declining in America and the biggest boogey-man in the Presidential election is religious extremists - and it's not that long since Catholics were the boogey-man in Presidential politics - Christians SHOULD WANT a government neutral on religion the way America's founding fathers planned.

Historically, the United States was settled by Christians that slaughtered the inhabitants, introduced slavery and murdered supposed witches, so there's a level at which our daily life rejects Christianity.

I adhere to the scientific hippie dissident-rooted traditions of America.

I did. That's why I said, "You might want to check the origin of that statement. They may be mistaken." But still...come back with an article that says members of Congress aren't allowed to send Christmas greetings to their friends and families, using their home addresses and their own postage. Then I'll help you call the ACLU.

Where do you get this garbage.
Kirk Cameron and fux news has proven that Christians have always celebrated Christmas and the bad ol pagens stole our celebration.

Kirks movie proves this once and for all, just ask Steve goocie and the other guy who isn't goocie

Wha-Tever
Point is, the article was wrong on several levels, one of which was the use of "govern religion." But you posted, re-posted, linked, yada. Do you defend the article or agree it's faulty?

Personally I thinks it's wingnutty. I was wondering about posts from Christmases past, so I searched December posts of previous years and found that. I wondered what type of comments it would garner, and I found out. I confess though, I really didn't notice the variation in the wording. Naturally, an offended liberal would spot it right away. . .
