Affluenza

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The post dealt mainly with the lopsided sentences handed down for each case. Race didn't appear to be a factor.
Race wasn't mentioned as a factor in the original source. Doesn't mean it wasn't a factor. Suppose Willie had been the rapist and "DuPont" the rib-robber.

"In this particular case, the facts and circumstances made it unlikely that a conviction could be secured at trial. ...This resolution protected the victim and imposed conditions that would make it less likely the defendant could harm others."

So if it's the difference in the sentence handed down, or the pervert walking free, which would you take now?
I don't see how they figure they're protecting the victim who was his child whose name and identity would have been well known by all that knew him. In that case, the sentence was harsher. Now, someone ought to take his ass out behind the woodshed and beat the pure living hell out of him.

Same consequences as far I'm concerned.

I haven't seen any reports suggesting it, but is it possible that some aggrieved family member or self-appointed avenger has killed Ethan Couch and his mother? If so, you heard it here first.

If so, we get a TV movie of the week out of it.

CBC: Ethan Couch, teen on probation in deadly 'affluenza' DUI, caught in Mexico
Mexico's Jalisco state prosecutors' office said in a statement that its agents had been working with American authorities via the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara since Dec. 26 to track down and capture 18-year old Ethan Couch and his mother, Tonya Couch. The office said the two were located and detained Monday evening in a beachside neighbourhood of the Pacific Coast resort city of Puerto Vallarta.

With their money and all the time they had for planning, you'd think they would have gone to a non-extradition country, and one where they would be less likely to be looked for and recognized.

I don't think they should extradite him. Just drag the process and let him stay in a Mexican jail for a few years.

I've read that Mexican jails are physically tougher but US ones do more to strip you of your humanity. Off to work, may try to look it up sometime later.

Turns out he was traced when he ordered Domino's pizza using his regular cell phone.

He'll probably be returned to Houston tomorrow (Wednesday).

Couldn't find it, and it was an old comparison, anyhow. I wouldn't know, my limited experience is solely with sucky US jails.

Hat trick of stupid:
"his regular cell phone" - Buy a burner.
"pizza" - Fantastic Mexican food, especially if you've got money.
"Domino's"- C'mon.

BBC: Texas 'affluenza' teen jailed for two years
On Wednesday, the 19-year-old was ordered to serve four consecutive 180-day jail sentences - one for each of his victims
[...]
If he had violated his probation as an adult, he could have faced decades in prison.

No longer a minor, Couch will serve his time in an adult prison.
