Trump

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Not to mention that entirely loyal Democrats would happily do what they can to increase the illusion of Trump's electability in a general election among Republicans.

It's not like the Bubbas that adore him can afford to buy his mostly high end products. Plus, there's the hit his international brand will take in the Muslim and Spanish speaking worlds as well as elsewhere. Didn't you just say he's not stupid?

I screen calls now which means I don't get polled. I used to lie to pollsters, but it got me on a bunch of GOP call/mailing lists.

I did say that, but I didn't say he wasn't crazy. His yuuuuge ego is driving him to be President even though it isn't in his business interest. But since his market is largely people with some means (highly infested with Republicans), it doesn't seem to bode well for his candidacy, either.

The don't call my cell. Maybe because the only number I give out is an old fax line, but I love the mail; I stuff the postage paid envelopes with as much heavy trash as I can find and drop it in the box.

Gwynne Dyer makes an interesting point about Trump vs. Hillary vs. Bernie:
However, there is a strong argument for saying that Trump’s main appeal to potential voters is that he is not boring. This could be a problem for Hillary Clinton, who for all her sterling virtues is deeply, deeply boring.

They have been holding a mock election at Western Illinois University one year before the national election ever since 1975. They have chosen the correct party and even the right candidate every time, including people who were still very dark horses at the time like Jimmy Carter (for the 1976 election) and Barack Obama (for the 2008 election).

They held their mock election for next year last month – and the Democrats won. But Hillary Clinton didn’t. The next president, according to the mock election, will be Bernie Sanders. At least he isn’t boring.

Can't argue with that in principle, but it says much for an electorate who thinks of the election of the most senior public official in the land the same way they think of Dancing With the Stars or American "Idle."

Admittedly, I'd vote for Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman to jointly run the US. They have a good history of hiring proper experts to do things, and they make decisions based on experience, good observation and science. While still keeping the gun crowd happy.

They'd also put the country's nuclear weapons inventory to good use. Without anyone getting hurt, although Savage might lose an eyebrow.

But Mythbusters is an Australian show, so they're probably no more eligible than Ted Cruz.

They are both American, and well-versed in a variety of things. Should do a much better job than any of the current batch of tards, especially tRump. I have a bent shitcan in my shop that's more qualified to be POTUS.

I don't know. I wonder if the tattered shreds of our remaining campaign law preclude that.

I think of Trump as another Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
While some observers inclined to consider his controversial statements as stark efforts to drum up nationalist support, not viewable as anything more serious than electoral fodder meant for domestic consumption, there was great consternation at the fact that in February 1996, months before a presidential election, Zhirinovsky placed second in opinion polls...
[...]
For his own part, Zhirinovsky has done a great deal to foster a reputation as a loud and boisterous populist who speaks on behalf of the Russian nation and people, even when the things he says are precisely what many people, at home or abroad, do not want to hear. Zhirinovsky infamously promised voters in 1991 that if he were elected, free vodka would be distributed to all. Similarly, he once remarked, during a political rally inside a Moscow department store, that if he were made president, underwear would be freely available. Zhirinovsky has on several occasions become involved in altercations with other politicians and debate opponents. As a candidate, he also took part in the 2000 and 2008 presidential elections, promising a "police state", and to institute summary executions.
[...]
While some commentators call Zhirinovsky a fascist, or a neo-fascist, some others dismiss him as a mere "clown" and as the Kremlin's willing political tool to neutralize the right-wing voter potential – and, for a time being, also as a radical "bogeyman" for the West.
[...]
Zhirinovsky has expressed admiration for the 1996 United States presidential election contender Pat Buchanan...
...mirroring Trump's admiration of Putin.

He has the same attitude toward women....
In 2013, when asked about former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, he said, "Yulia Tymoshenko, I'm sorry, is a woman. I don't like them, as it's easier to persuade a woman. [...] Women are more compliant, and it's dangerous."
And of course he makes all sorts of claims about invading and bombing other countries.
