People that Cannot or Will Not Sing Correctly
Why do professional event managers hire people to sing the National Anthem that cannot sing. Even those that can sing embellish it to the point that the performance is poor.
Regardless of performance the audience patriotically cheer. I suppose these poor performers believe the cheers are for their poor rendition.
I know it is not the easiest song to sing but I have heard many, many locally talented people all oner the country hit it spot on. So the talent is there and many deserve the exposure. Yet event managers go for a big name.
I have never met a single person say they were attending a sporting event to hear big name perform the National Anthem. I have never heard anyone after an event compliment a big name on their rendition. I have herd positive comments after locals sing our anthem correctly.
So again why do professional event managers hire people that cannot or will not sing the National Anthem.

Why hire anyone at all to sing it? Play a good quality recording of the Marine Band playing it. It doesn't get any better. On a related note, why is it necessary to play the National Anthem before sporting events?

Pomp and circumstance, I imagine ... same as the pompousness of those crying about "that song wasn't sung properly!"
Guess they've never been to a bar wherein the band plays cover tunes and, although they're doing their best, it just ain't the original.
Kinda rolls back to your point, O Really.

Speaking of unnecessary pre-event hoopla, has anybody listened to an invocation before a NASCAR race? "Oh, Lord, thank you for this (sponsor name, sponsor name) race, and the opportunity to be here together at such a great (sponsor name, sponsor name) day. Thanks also to (sponsor name, sponsor name) for helping to produce this event. And we pray for the drivers and particularly for their hot wives with (sponsor name, sponsor name) written on their asses..."
Maybe a little exaggeration, but not much. The first part (up to the hot wives asses) is pretty accurate.

Maybe Tertiary can head up a committee to investigate this important national issue.
It's not only the pros that sometimes sound bad. Some group of I believe it was
Air Force members in a quartet called Knights of the Blue or something like that,
sang God Bless America at the World Series tonight. Talk about off key and
awful. The best things were those snatches of Who songs.
Hey, the Giants win the Series. I didn't think they would be able to sweep the Tigers,
but they did. Pitching and defense very impressive. Congratulations.

That explains why he wants to relegate responsibility for singing the National Anthem to the States.mike wrote:lawl ... yeah, that was really bad ...perspctv wrote:You just saw Romney sing, didn't you Tertius?

My favorite pre-event hoopla

Good idea. I do not like the recording part but hire a band to play it correctly. Then the fans can sing as best they can. Some people might even learn the words.O Really wrote:Why hire anyone at all to sing it? Play a good quality recording of the Marine Band playing it. It doesn't get any better. Such as:Vrede wrote:If you want to give fans a lesson in what the 1st Amendment really means, try not standing. Careful, though, you may get a lesson in how little it means to some, while they are still singing about freedom.

You just gotta love Snope's explanation as to why Obama chose to cover his privates instead of his heart.Vrede wrote:Sort of, but both are standing respectfully. I remember BRN cons making a huge deal out of the Obama pic.

I don't remember lefties posting about the Shrub pic, but they may have.
"It's not clear what they were looking at; presumably, there's another flag off to the right...."
1...."Experts on the National Anthem" (how does one get to be an expert on the National Anthem?) says the law (regarding flag ettiquette) seems to be out of date.
2...."Modern custom does not require a hand over the heart." (as quoted)
3....Again as quoted: "I think the bottom line is that you show respect with your demeanor.....whether you put your hand over your heart, hold your hat at shoulder or waist level, is really in this day and age, irrelevant."
(This covers Bush's ass as well)
Items 1,2, & 3 are nothing more than liberal, groveling attempts to cover Obama's ass, while at the same time downplaying or debunking the patriotism that most Americans hold dear. And you can't overlook this:
Snopes say this can't be verified

They thought it was gas, but when the inspectors went in they couldn't find any.

Re: People that Cannot or Will Not Sing Correctly
As well as respect for Christmas and Easter events, common courtesy towards one another, table manners, (wearing a cap or blowing your nose at the table). Yeppers, there's a lot of once-decent customs that have gone to the dogs.As we noted earlier, although the U.S. Flag Code still specifies that those present should stand "with the right hand over the heart" during the playing of the U.S. national anthem, that particular form is one that has generally come to be observed less and less consistently among the general public over the decades:
Good ole America, home of the free, land of the shitty attitudes.
