On average, people with their history and skin color will do better than a black with their history, but of course there are exceptions. And, you seem to have done well. On average, their black child would have done worse.

I think generational wealth also a large contributing factor. The issue I have is when some of the more extreme leftists take the white-privlege to the next level and outright demonize those who are white. Usually those of the SJW persuasion. If I feel im being demonized, of course I'll be a little perturbed.

Conflict is part of human nature. I suppose it doesn't have to be, and I think given a surplus of resources/wealth you're bound to have less conflict. But make those resources extremely scarce like back in the day and morality (as wr know it today, anyway) will quickly dwindle away, do you think?

What I'm trying to say, I guess, when I feel there's an attack on me for something I can't help, when I feel im being demonized for who I am, why wouldn't I want to push back? I think it's a part of human nature for those that haven't simply become apathetic and weak.

Not saying you have to go out and commit physical violence because I'm somewhat of a pacifist myself and disagree with that, vehemently,
but in the clash of ideas you've also gotta stand your ground.

Consider the vast oil wealth in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Syria, etc. That's a whole lot of wealthy Arabs. But telling some kid in Somalia that statistically his folks could have done a lot worse, just isn't constructive.

I'm not complaining; this is cozy, warm weather. The kind of weather we dream of when its -39C / -38F.

Every few years we'll get an entire month when it never - day or night - rises above -30C/-22F. And that's not counting wind chill.

I spent a winter working outdoors in the northern plains oil patch. When it got to -10 F with no wind we were playing outside like it was spring. Did you know that Listerine (26.9% Ethanol) can freeze when the heat goes out?

Pushing back rather than cowering when being attacked simply because of your race or background is having thick skin, is it not though? That's part of the dialectical process, right? One side presents the thesis, the other the antithesis. Rational discourse occurs, like we're doing now, versus the shouting down of opposition and further strengthening of echo chambers we've seen with some of the new wave of entitled SJWs, some (many?) whom would simply disregard a person's opinion on matters simply because they're a "privileged old white man". Discourse be damned.

The horseshoe theory of political science seems ever more applicable to reality at times. This is why I believe one must always act on the defensive when threatened rather than simply being apathetic.

Depends on the "attack". Some feel attacked at the mere suggestion that White (or male, or well off, or American) privilege is real. It's ongoing discussion in lefty circles, much more often focused on expanding opportunity than on repressing participation. I've never been shouted down based on demographics. Rather, there's general encouragement to step back long enough to allow the less privileged the chance to step up.

Sometimes when there's limited space for whatever lefty thing, I've tongue-in-cheek pointed out that my old white hetero maleness adds diversity. No one has griefed me for it and I almost always get in . . . but that may just be because I can do first aid.

Bill Clinton really needs to be put out to pasture

How do you tell the greatest political talent of his generation that he's lost his stuff? I'm not sure how, but somebody might want to deliver that news to Bill Clinton.

While many thought that he would be an effective surrogate for his wife in this election, since he's still popular and he's a walking reminder of how good things were in the 1990s, Bill only makes news when he says something he'd like to take back, as he did on Monday when he seemed to decry the "awful legacy" of the last seven years. Before we go further, let's see the full quote in context:

Which he may well have been. But it's hard not to think that the old Bill Clinton would have understood how that comment would be taken before it made it out of his mouth....

We're still "practicing trickle-down economics" and the "regulation in Washington" remains weak. Also, Obama has been in office seven years, not "the last eight years" and Shrub was POTUS for eight years, not "the seven years before that".
