He'll be the next Republican candidate. Being President is still unlikely.JTA wrote:Donny T is gonna be the next president.
So far he's only been debating other members of the Republican clown car, those trying to look most anti-Planned Parenthood, anti-gay, anti-Muslim, etc. Eventually he's going to have to debate for real.
He's already fighting very real claims that he isn't really a Republican. Imagine once he has to - as Romney's campaign put it - shake the Etch-a-Sketch and appeal to the rest of the voters.
Hillary could go after Republican voters as the most Republican choice in the election. "Look, I don't like this any more than you do. But nevertheless, here we are...."

Re: 2016 Elections
The only hope the Republicans have for an alternate nomination outcome is for Cruz to be bribed or shamed into dropping out soon. Trump has yet to win 50% of a state, though he came close in NV. He will need to win enough delegates outright in the primaries. If he goes to the convention merely leading, who knows what craziness will ensue.

Re: 2016 Elections
Am I the only one that doesn't find Trump that bad? I mean... as compared to the people he's running against. As a Republican he's not doing or saying anything more outlandish than any of the others. He's definitely more vocal with the stupid ideas... but that seems to help him, so can't blame him there. I guess that says a lot about America.
*If* he won, I don't think he'd be any worse than Cruz, maybe even better.

I'd prefer Trump over any of the others in the Republican race. Cruz would be a total catastrophe, Rubio would be awful, and Kasich is really just pretending to be normal as his shtick in the campaign.bannination wrote:

And Jerry Springer was mayor of Cinncinnati.

I think the only thing Trump has going for him is that his politics is unpredictable. So, sometimes we'll agree with him, sometimes he'll do things so nutso that nobody does. Otherwise, he has no experience in the mechanics of governance, will be an international embarrassment, and deliberately encourages the basest and most hateful among us.

As One Clinton Email Nightmare Nears an End, Another Begins
Then, Trump is being sued for his Trump University scam. So, it could be that both POTUS nominees get very unfavorable rulings while they're campaigning. Gotta love America.
Aside: While in India I happened to say something about not having corruption in America and got rightly jeered at by a crewmate. I had to clarify that in the context of our discussion I meant the type of corruption requiring a few rupees here and there several times a day to get very basic things done. We're much grander here, we even have universities of corruption.

True, but there are real questions that may break unfavorably for Hillary, she's handled the situation poorly and there's no doubt that it's hurt her in the eyes of the public, including Dems. It isn't all just another Benghazi.
Judge: Clinton aides can be questioned about email server
U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan is a black Howard University grad and former Legal Services lawyer that was appointed to the bench by Presidents Reagan, George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
POTUS Trump could be the unfortunate result, Americans don't seem to care as much that a fat cat Republicans are or appear to be sleazy.

Re: 2016 Elections
Actually it is "just another Benghazi." Even the purported purpose of the lawsuit says it wants to see if she "deliberately sought to thwart open records laws." And sure, nagging "questions" about something in a lawsuit hamper a campaign, but that doesn't make those "questions" any less witch-hunty.
Yes, it was not a good move to have a server off the rez, but unless they can show she intended to leak to the Russians or Chinese or something, it's a fairly minor transgression. And if she did intend to give classified info to the Russians, half the country will boost her to "hero" status.

It does if she's broken the law.

Re: 2016 Elections
Yup. It was just as bad as when the previous administration used servers at the Republican Party headquarters, or when Jeb! used his own email server as governor. Not to mention several in Congress who claim to have never used email - instead using their aides to do the email work, bypassing data retention and freedom of information laws.O Really wrote:Yes, it was not a good move to have a server off the rez,

Well just because Republican scum bags did it doesn't necessarily make it right, but it does put it in perspective as a "crime." The whole thing is political, just like the charges for Rick Perry for generally being a Texas politician prick.

Re: 2016 Elections
Few congresspersons and no governors have access to the sensitive info. that an SoS does.
I don't really care, charges will be filed or not and the lawsuits will prevail or not. It's not like government servers have been safe from hacking. For all I know, her server was effectively more secure. What matters to me is that a woman that knew she'd be running for POTUS was so foolhardy and then responded so badly when outed. Of all the mud that's being thrown at her, this has as much potential to put a Republican in the WH as anything other than maybe the Clinton Foundation stuff.
Aside: Bernie's approach is interesting. He exclusively attacks her from the left, which can only help her in November, not on potentially winning stuff like this. Unlike the GOP Klown Kar, I think he cares enough about the country that he doesn't want to do anything that will enhance the GOP's chances, even if it lessens his marginal odds of getting the nomination.

Re: 2016 Elections
Meanwhile, Hillary's 2016 Democratic Presidential Nomination national RCP Average lead has shrunk to +5%. Surprisingly close, but it may grow again after some upcoming southern victories.
Trump's national RCP Average lead is +12.9%. Not insurmountable in theory but it's over Cruz, who won't get the nomination. His constituency is rabid, but limited. More telling is that Trump at 33.2% nearly doubles the only Repub that could theoretically beat him, Rubio at 16.7%.
So Trump until November, at least - I'm hoping for more mirth than shame.

Re: 2016 Elections
That's a thumping. Any candidate almost always gets 20% in a 2-way race. So, Bernie inspired only 6% or so.
