And Canada benefitted from America's draft. We got some excellent citizens from it.
It was like an IQ-based filter. The smarter ones came to Canada while the others went to Vietnam.
Low blow to those who chose to serve, no?
The people I knew who "chose to serve" did so to kill gooks, or to get out of being sent to Viet nam, or because they were drafted.
Now all claim they went to fight the evils of communism.

As I said, "from America's draft." No-one who was drafted "chose to serve."
As for those who served by choice or otherwise, the low blow would be their efforts, injuries and deaths having been for nothing. Well, other to enrich military contractors.
A lower blow would be "Captain AWOL" Bush and Dick "5 Draft Deferments / I had other priorities" Cheney sending their kids into another defeat for nothing. Cheney being the former CEO of the biggest military contractor and still owning stock in the company.

Alright, fair enough. I misread that first part.
As for being drafted and going through with it, I don't necessarily think it's fair to generalize those as being "low IQ", while those skipping town for Canada as "high IQ". If that's the case then I think it's equally valid to call those who ran for the border cowards. I don't blame people for skipping town to avoid the draft though, the war was largely bullshit much like Iraq II. But if you're poor, not lucky enough to have wealthy connections to send your ass to Canada, or aren't able to receive a college determent, well I guess you're screwed. Low IQ? Nah, not necessarily. I'm sure plenty of highly intelligent chose to go through with it.
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.
I agree with JTA.
First, plenty of smart ones had college deferments or figured out other ways to avoid upending their lives by fleeing.
Then, it was wrong to still believe in the righteousness of the US, but not necessarily stupid.
Plus, those that fled were mostly white, middle class, had some resources and were lucky enough to have been exposed to both the truth about Vietnam and the fact that Canada was a viable option.
And, some may have just been cowards, while others were pacifist or anti-imperialist but not necessarily smart.

I, er, don't have a spare bedroom.
Ah, your refugee solidarity is theoretical and impersonal.
I suppose I'll have to make space for refugees if what I see coming over the horizon happens:
If Hillary and Donald go head to head in the election, it could be a very close race.
Imagine a repeat of the 2000 presidential election with Bush v. Gore decided by weeks of recounts and court battles. It was already a circus, but imagine what it would be like if it were Hillary vs. Trump. And imagine that the Supreme Court battle happens in the current environment, with Judge Scalia's death and the fight to replace him. And a Tea Party that didn't exist in 2000.

Pardon me, I didn't mean to eavesdrop in on your personal conversation with Vrede too; nor did I hear (or see) O Really, Wneglia, billy, or JTA say anything. You're hallucinating.

Goddamn you guys. There's a real possibility Donald Trump is gonna be our next president.
I was a mere high school freshman when W. was running, but was the terror as bad as the possibility of a Donny T. coronation? I mean, at least W. was a governor, right?

They have been working overtime for years to turn their base into hate filled idiots. Their have always been the limbos and the like, but fox carries the blame for making hate mainstream.
I suspect there are enough starry eyed dems that trumpet will be president. Don't forget calif. believed they were electing The Terminator for governor.
