The Rocky Mountains is an extremely lazy name for a mountain range. But naming a park after it tops that.JTA wrote:Any cool places around Boulder CO to check out, aside from Rocky mountain national park?

Hey! It's a good Scottish name. Named after a region in Scotland.Vrede too wrote:"Banff" sounds like you're drunk.
Populated by drunks.
(It was originally named Rocky Mountains Park.)

At least there will always be rocks. Glacier National Park's glaciers will be gone by 2030.rstrong wrote:The Rocky Mountains is an extremely lazy name for a mountain range. But naming a park after it tops that.

Looks like I'll have a few day before Okefenokee. Any opinions on Manatee Springs State Park, the Tide Swamp Wildlife Management Area and nearby?

Manatee Springs is a great park. On the Suwanee, good paddling, yada. But if you want to actually see manatees, they're at Blue Springs. Stephen Foster (Florida https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Stephen-Foster ) is a great park too - and closer to Okefenokee.Vrede too wrote:Looks like I'll have a few day before Okefenokee. But if you're going further into Florida anyway, Rainbow Springs is spectacular from a 'yak.

And such a natural florida site, tourists everywhere, a monkey island, but the marshmallow eating hippo is gone.GoCubsGo wrote:Crystal River is also a great place to see manatees.
Then a few little further south for the all natural mermaid performance.

Memories - google
5350 S Withlapopka Dr, Floral City
I owed my very own private island. What a place to live. A pair of otters crossed just off the front porch every morning and evening, pileated wood peckers raised their young just off the back porch 2 years until a pair of hawks moved into the tree above to raise theirs, gators everywhere, huge alligator snappers, great fishing, and I even encountered a fla panther or mountain lion or whatever you want to call them. All this and on off was by bike or car.
It was tough watching that gator run down my beagle in my newly mown front yard. Short Louis was a good dog.
Over 80% of the population was from NYC. the s/d sales centers were actually in NYC (the couldn't sell on site due to the flying debris from blasting at the phosphate pits next door). Disgruntled Yankees everywhere.
The population doubled in the 4 years I lived in this paradise leaving me no choice but to move north to the south.

Thanks all, keep em' comin'.
Since I did all the Okefenokee legwork, I'm passing all this on to my friend in hopes that he'll do some research and pick our itinerary. Will let you know where we end up.

How does one do that without personal metadata being attached? Post pics I mean, not getting eaten by alligators.

I usually upload mine to imgur, seems like they strip off the meta-data on upload so people you share your images with can't see the EXIF data. BUT, I think the website logs the meta-data privately in case the man comes looking for you.Vrede too wrote:How does one do that without personal metadata being attached? Windows can do that for you. Right-click on the image, select Properties, and then the Details tab. You can manually edit/clear each property. Or you can click "Remove Properties and Personal Information" near the bottom of the window. It'll give you the choice of stripping the information from the existing picture, or making a copy with the properties removed.Vrede too wrote:How does one do that without personal metadata being attached? In Florida, the alligators have developed sign making skills. . .JTA wrote:Post some pics when you get back man, don't get eaten by any alligators.

My first night in central fla many years ago. I stopped at a pretty little private camp and set up my tent by the river away from the motor homes and other campers. After dark I got in my vw to read for a couple of hours. Around 10, I flipped on the headlights to show the way to the tent. There was a large gator between me and the tent. I slept in the vw.

You should have fought the gator to the death.billy.pilgrim wrote:Seth Milner wrote:In Florida, the alligators have developed sign making skills. . .JTA wrote:Post some pics when you get back man, don't get eaten by any alligators.
