The homophobic thread :>

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

No and no.

I first said no, thinking someone would ask the who, how, what, when, wheres, etc., and I didn't want to get into specifics. I didn't feel right about posting a falsehood, so I went back and answered it correctly with a simple yes. Sorry if you folks thought I was misleading you, no ill intent intended.

You first said "yes" then changed to "no" then posted that you were in the army

I have no problem with a poster taking on a made up life to express a point, but there is a required consistency required, or it damages the conversation.

"thought"??? You did mislead until busted by 3 different posters. Your lie about what happened cancels your apology.

You first said "yes" then changed to "no" then posted that you were in the army ...

In other words, Seth Milner "didn't feel right about posting a" truth, so "went back and answered it (in)correctly with a simple" lie, one that would still stand if folks hadn't seen that he first posted the truth.

Now, as always happens with habitual liars that are also idiots, he's gotten himself all confused.

Alternatively, Seth Milner did lie at first and then with "I was in the Army" and his "No" was the truth. Who knows at this point?

There's one silver lining, Seth Milner - No one will bother asking "the who, how, what, when, wheres, etc." since your answers wouldn't be believable.

Oh man, Seth - you've got to do better than this. This is fun conversation, not an interrogation. Nobody really cares what you did or would ever have any way of finding out. But as somebody who way back in the day held a top secret crypto clearance and worked in places where even the lunch menus were classified, I can say that either whatever you did probably isn't all that secret anymore, or you would have long had an alternate story for your friends and family. We'll accept that story. ;)

I first said no, (hell I'm confused now!) thinking someone would ask the who, how, what, when, wheres, etc., and I didn't want to get into specifics. I first posted YES but because I didn't want anyone asking specifics, I said NO. The rest is explained above.

I have no problem with a poster taking on a made up life to express a point, but there is a required consistency required, or it damages the conversation.
OK, I screwed up. (your turn Vrede) I said above: Sorry if you folks thought I was misleading you, no ill intent intended. As far as a made up life, I've some issues; but I choose not to speak of them. That's all I can say.

 Thanks. The main thing I wanted to do was to go back and honestly answer billy's question. I screwed up by trying to be honest. billy and the rest of you would have been satisfied however I answered. At any rate, you're correct; it's over, time to move on.

My doctor asked if I or any of my forums friends suffered from insanity . . .
I said nope; we all seem to enjoy it.

Yup. Not because of the content of the menu, but because once any document goes in, it never gets out. Never know when somebody might write notes on a menu and leave it at pizza pick-up

The history of espionage is full of stories of important information gleaned from mundane sources.

And important information ending up in mundane sources. Like the D-Day Daily Telegraph crossword security alarm. Codenames related to the D-Day plans started appearing in crossword puzzle solutions.
(Headmaster) Dawe had developed a habit of saving his crossword-compiling work time by calling boys into his study to fill crossword blanks with words; afterwards Dawe would provide clues for those words. As a result, war-related words including those codenames got into the crosswords; Dawe said later that at the time he did not know that these words were military codewords.
[...]
MI5 became involved and arrested Dawe at the school, and his senior colleague crossword compiler Melville Jones at his home in Bury St Edmunds. Both were interrogated intensively, but it was decided that they were innocent; Dawe nearly lost his job as a headmaster over this. Afterwards, Dawe asked at least one of the boys (Ronald French) where he had got those codewords from, and was alarmed at the contents of the boy's notebook. He gave him a severe reprimand about secrecy and national security during wartime, ordered the notebook to be burnt, and ordered the boy to swear secrecy on the Bible.
