I had never heard of the NAAWP before you mentioned it.
Guess what its official slogan is?
"Equal Rights For All — Special Privileges For None"
Sounds racist to me.

Yeah, real equality implied there.

As the Southern Poverty Law Center notes:
The decision to target lower-income whites in the Appalachian region was made by NAAWP leaders in Florida and Louisiana. This "charity" is a new tactic by the NAAWP — a white supremacist group that focuses obsessively on black crime and, in particular, black rape of white women — in its effort to portray itself as a mainstream civil rights organization devoted to the welfare of whites.
The NAAWP doesn't sound so progressive, however, when it comes to civil rights for black people. For instance, the group's web site defends the American slave system and argues that the white southerners suffered during the Civil War as much as blacks did under slavery.
Civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., the site adds, was a "beast," "a sexual degenerate, an America-hating Communist, and a criminal betrayer of even the interests of his own people."

So, after Byrd renounced his KKK membership.Wneglia wrote:Probably in elementary school in the early '50s when I befriended a black kid who was ignored or harassed by other whites.Vrede too wrote:Still hasn't.Vrede too wrote:To be fair, Wneglia didn't post that a KKK endorsement is a bad thing.
But seriously, with all the true stuff that can be flung at Hillary, who even thinks up trying to tar her with an association with a guy who has been dead 6 years and that was a racist 6 decade before that? It's just dumb. Wneglia, when did you take your first significant action against racism. Was it before or after Byrd did?

Very brave and laudable on a personal level, but it's debatable whether that's a significant action against racism unless accompanied by some sort of chastising of the white racists.

So Florida counts their primary votes in an hour. Why does it take them a month in the general election?

Re: 2016 Elections
Florida has to make sure a Republican wins, they don't care as much which Republican.
Oh well, it was a good run, Bernie. Continue the struggle one way or another. I've got a bad feeling about Hillary - Trump, hope I'm wrong.
Not looking good for Cruz. That's the nice thing about GOP primaries, one or more of them lose.

Re: 2016 Elections
That, plus Hillary not being able to generate enough enthusiasm across the board due to the emails and foundation, distaste for family dynasties and, rightly or wrongly, issues of character. It doesn't take much to persuade a voter to not support a candidate. We'll see, maybe Trump is so bad that'll motivate folks to go out and vote against him, but it's a bigger hurdle and he'll be moderating somewhat for the general.

Chicago State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, infamous for suppressing the Laquan McDonald video for so long, was beaten by progressive champion Kim Foxx tonight.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Talk about a voting flub, a Polk County couple was nearly turned away when they tried to vote this morning.
“We would have been turned away if we weren’t forceful about it,” said Theresa Wibert, who contacted News Channel 8 about the incident.
When Wilbert showed up to her registered polling location she was handed a ballot with only the names of Republican candidates.
She spoke with two workers at her registered polling location, Precinct 321. “A woman who was in charge told Wilbert that it was a closed Republican primary and it was not for Democrats,” Wibert told WFLA News Channel 8.
The incident happened as the polls opened on Tuesday morning. A handful of Democratic voters were almost turned away.
“Not one person sitting at that table questioned the fact that there was no Democrat ballots on the table,” said Wibert.
“We pushed it a little further and the lady called a few people. Finally, she looked in the bottom of a closet and found a box with the Democratic ballots. Then they fixed it. So we were able to vote for our candidate”

Re: 2016 Elections
This years POTUS election is getting downright scary. With the way Trump is running his campaign, encouraging violence and what with the violence at his rallies, I wouldn't be surprised if a civil war broke out! Sounds silly, but damn if it doesn't appear to be a possibility. Democrats, liberals, pro-homosexual, anti-gun, pro-abortionist, and refugee sympathizers are demonstrating against Trump in the streets and at Trump's rallies, often engaging physically with the redneck factions who rabidly support Trump.
The words of that idiot in Fayetteville who sucker-punched the Black demonstrator and then said "I guess we'll have to kill them", did much to inflame tensions that are already at an all time high.

Nice Republican fantasy there, but it doesn't match the real world.Seth Milner wrote:Democrats, liberals, pro-homosexual, anti-gun, pro-abortionist, and refugee sympathizers are demonstrating against Trump in the streets and at Trump's rallies,
The protests have been largely against Trump's racism. Yes, there have been a few Bernie signs around, but you could remove the Democratic Party entirely from the situation and the protests would still happen.
I've yet to see any pro-homosexual, anti-gun or pro-abortionist protests against Trump, because these haven't been issues for him. He doesn't share your beloved Mike Huckabee's position of tearing up the Constitution to protecting the sanctity of traditional bigotry. He hasn't parroted the same NRA fantasies about mythological anti-gun forces.
He's long been "totally pro-choice" in his own words, publicly changing that only for his current campaign. Like Reagan and Bush II and most Republicans, no doubt he'll switch back after the campaign is over.

Hillary is competent and qualified, far beyond anyone in the Republican clown car. But that isn't saying much. She's more honest than anyone in the Republican clown car, but that isn't saying much at all.Seth Milner wrote:I know you will have a melt-down,
I'd be OK with Hillary *or* Burnie. No doubt there are a few people on the Republican side that I'd like if I took a close look - but they're smart enough not to run against the clown car.
Possibly even Newt Gingrich - once rabidly far-right, now a moderate/RINO, without changing a position. I'd put his competence, qualifications and level of honesty about equal with Hillary. His 2012 campaign was demolished by acting like an adult. And he's pro-space program.
