Re: Trump
why is the left trying to destroy thumper before the repug convention
and Chris Matthews is an idiot - he never stops talking about how great he is and will repeat his thumper town hall abortion question every night until the convention
save this shit for the general, or at least quit letting cruz get away with saying that he doesn't believe women should be punished.
thumper, we all know, was talking off the cuff and to his credit, it does make sense that if something is illegal, it should be punished and if abortion is murder and becomes illegal it should definitely be punished - so common sense blabbering off the cuff - thumper is right
where he failed is by not knowing how the pols on the right refuse to discuss the consequences of illegal abortion - they
know that these details might create a backlash and that they can wait
example cruzer - he was so quick to attack trump for suggesting that there should be punishment
but look at his buds
In a statement on the senator's campaign website, Cruz said, "I am grateful to receive the endorsement of Troy Newman. He has served as a voice for the unborn for over 25 years, and works tirelessly every day for the pro-life cause. We need leaders like Troy Newman in this country who will stand up for those who do not have a voice."
But Newman has a history of openly endorsing violence against doctors and medical staff involved in providing abortion services.

https://www.tedcruz.org/news/troy-newma ... thood-vide...
ol Troy advocates that the women who have abortions and anyone who provides assistance are "contract killers" and should be treated the same as someone who pays - say - to have their husband murdered
but lying ted attacked thumper for saying there should be "some" kind of punishment
maybe ted wants stoning - I'm pretty sure his friend and supporter Troy Newman would - but we will never know about lying ted until after abortion is made illegal
and then we may see a miscarriage investigated as a possible crime scene

Re: Trump
A big part of Trump's success - or any politician - is the illusion of being a winner. In turn this is a big part of why the US has primaries *IN* the election, rather than choosing leaders between elections. Besides a lot of free publicity, winning the primaries election process tells everyone "this is a winner."billy.pilgrim wrote:why is the left trying to destroy thumper before the repug convention
If Trump had a clear win in the primaries, it would only enhance his illusion of being a winner, and of being a credible candidate.
If Trump and Cruz were running neck and neck, I'm sure the Democrats would simply stand back and let them fight each other.

I can't see why trump would be hard to beat in the general. Cruz is much more scary in the general and would end this country as we know it. The man will set the clock back to the fucking dark ages.

In Trump vs. Hillary, the wingnuts and inbreds all show up at the polls, while the well-meaning progressives stay home.billy.pilgrim wrote:I can't see why trump would be hard to beat in the general.

I believe it would have been best to expose the thumper meltdown after he is nominated
my fear is that establishment repugs have no idea how dangereous cruz is

Not attacking Trump because we think he'll be easier to beat is strategic speculation that comes with some risk. Better to just call out hatefulness and it's millions of followers wherever and whenever they show their ugly faces and let the chips fall where they may.

Tell Google: Dump Trump!
Tell Google CEO Sundar Pichai:
"Reject Trump's sexism, racism, and xenophobia. Cancel your sponsorship of the Republican National Convention."

Re: Trump
I do not like Trump, and I probably lean slightly left on most issues but certainly not all, but I do like the fact that Trump is just shaking things up so hard with the GOP establishment that they've become scared shitless. I want to see him succeed in gaining the nomination.Vrede too wrote:I didn't know that you signed any of them. Why not this one?
I feel like this whole presidential election has made the oligarchic tendencies of our political system glaringly obvious. It's like they're not even trying to hide it anymore.

Re: Trump
At first, I thought Trump would get quickly tossed; but he wasn't.
So I started to think maybe Republicans really are as stupid as I think they are.
Then I thought, no, it's just that the crazy ones get all the publicity. When voting starts we'll see. We saw.
Then I thought surely somebody else should get the nomination just in case they put Hillary in jail or whatever and the Republican candidate were to win.
Then I looked at the field again and decided Trump might be the least harmful. I mean, he's not really going to get Mexico to pay for a wall.
Then as it became apparent that he has totally alienated so many non- "poorly educated" voters that he has no chance probably even if Hillary is in jail, I decided him getting nominated is a good thing.
Go, Trump!

Re: Trump
To be honest, I would urge companies to cancel their sponsorship of the Republican National Convention no matter who the candidate was . . . and probably the Democratic National Convention, too. It's unlimited corporate bribery of our politics. If cancellation fuels internal GOP strife by being blamed on Trump, so much the better.
