http://cnsnews.com/blog/michael-w-chapm ... unless-god
So Franklin Graham thinks America is on the verge of total moral and spiritual collapse unless "God intervenes."
He says, "“We are a people and nation in imminent danger,” said the reverend. “We mock God, ridicule His Word and His ways, and flaunt gross immorality.” In the article, he uses "we" to mean the people of the United States, generally, and says that only if "we" turn to Graham's version of God can "our land" be saved. So I have a question - exactly how many US citizens will it take to "turn to God" before God intervenes on behalf of the country? Obviously more than one, since ostensibly Graham has already done his part, but surely fewer than 100%. Is it reasonable to think that the entity that created the universe is so petty as to send a country of 300,000 straight to Hell because some little old lady in Queens refused to go along? So what is the percentage required? Or is it an individual thing - turn to God, go to Heaven; don't and go to Hell. And if that's the case, why does Graham insist "we" (the country) must do anything?
Just wondering.

“Moses also hit a rock and water sprang forth, so why are we paying for city water and sewage?”

Well, praying for something that one can make happen with city employees and other people's money does seem to be a successful strategy. No God needed at all. After posting the PSA to his Twitter account, Garber was questioned about his past statement about the pothole-healing power of prayer, with one poster writing: “I thought he was going to pray for them to be fixed. Did God deny his prayer?”
Ever mindful of social media, Yarber replied that his prayers were answered, writing: “Absolutely not. I’m never denied. Go to http://data.jacksonms.gov to see infrastructure plans.”

Happy Birthday, John Leland!: Remembering An Overlooked (Baptist preacher) Hero Of Church-State SeparationO Really wrote:What's funny (not humorous) is that many of those who now want the government to help them impose their version of religion on the rest of the citizenry are theological descendants of those who worked very hard to assure the government stayed away. Re: The Religion Thread
From today's News of the Weird:
Latest Religious Messages
The Keystone Fellowship Church in North Wales, Pennsylvania, has a tradition of congregants reserving pew seats by leaving Bibles in place, but worshipper Robert Braxton, 27, was having none of that on April 24 and took a saved seat anyway. Witnesses told Philadelphia's WCAU-TV that when one church member gently tapped Braxton on the shoulder to inform him of the tradition, Braxton snapped at him and became disruptive. Congregant Mark Storms, 46, flashed a gun and confronted Braxton, who punched Storms, adding, "That's not a real gun" and "What are you going to do, shoot me?" Storms, contending that he felt threatened, fired two shots, killing Braxton, and was charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Re: The Religion Thread
Interesting kerfluffle developing at my secular hospital - One of the MDs, otherwise one I like a lot, is asking every patient and family whether he can (Christian) pray with them, even when the patient is a little kid, then doing so if they or their family agree. Now, healthcare workers pray with citizens all the time, but always at the instigation of the people they care for. I don't care if healthcare workers go full bore Holy Roller at the patient's request, but in my 29 years of healthcare I've never seen this. It's wildly inappropriate. Staff and patients are complaining - "He doesn't even know what our faith is" - and some will naturally wonder if they might offend the person who has such power over their life and health if they decline. Management has taken notice, too early to say how it will shake out.You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Re: The Religion Thread
Apparently, Seth Milner thinks it would be peachy for non-private practice MDs to ask all of their patients to pray to Allah, Trump or the Flying Spaghetti Monter, too, and doesn't think it would reflect poorly on the hospital as a whole . . . or he's a bigot and it's only okay if Christian MDs do it.rstrong wrote:Correction, not that Seth Milner will get this either - It appears that the "Year of People in Power Pushing their Mythology on Others" has carried over into 2016. As well as the "Year of Liberals" attempting to force their "tolerant" perversions and anti-Christianity on others? Hmm . . .
I had a serious operation not too long ago and before the operation, the Dr. asked if he could pray with me. Looking over his shoulder, I could see the sneers and noses in the air from a couple of others in the room. I told him I wasn't really the praying type, but if it made him feel better, to go ahead, as I was about to place my life in his hands. He said he wouldn't if I so chose, but I told him to go ahead, and he did. I didn't feel anything overly spectacular, but somehow I felt more at ease. Anyway, why do you think a doctor asking if he/she can pray is "pushing" themselves on anyone? You're a medical professional; you surely see death and dying every day. Regardless of whether or not you believe that God is a myth, why is it so bad that someone who sees a loved one dying, or knowing they themselves may not come out of the OR alive is asked if they want someone who is a believer to pray with them? How does that affect you? Or others around you? Is it detrimental to your doing your job properly? Or maybe, it's just that because of your hate for God, you loathe that people find comfort in prayer?
BTW . . . The Bubble-head Twins are back . . .
