2016 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

100 years ago:
Hillary Clinton's Nomination Coincides With Another Female Politician's Historic Victory

Hillary Clinton’s shattering this week of the highest, hardest glass ceiling in politics comes almost a century after another female politician celebrated a historic victory.

In 1916, Montanan Jeannette Rankin became the first woman elected to Congress. Rankin, a Republican, found her calling in the women's suffrage movement before heading to Washington.

Her feat, in some ways, was even more impressive than Clinton’s becoming the first woman to top a major presidential ticket considering it came at a time when many women didn't even have the right to vote....

Trump-backed congressional candidate (Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-N.C.) gets blown out

For all I know George Holding may be worse, but it's still great to see her go.

I hereby concede that O Really has been correct all along and I wrong. The alternative is my agreeing with:
Newt Gingrich thinks he knows why Bernie Sanders isn't dropping out

To former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, it's obvious why Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wants to stay in the Democratic presidential primary race even though Hillary Clinton has all but clinched the nomination. In an interview on Fox and Friends on Friday, Gingrich suggested that Sanders' decision to stick it out was all because of the ongoing probe into Clinton's use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

"First of all, if I were Bernie and I think this is what he's doing, why should he drop out before the FBI drops out?" Gingrich said. "As long as the FBI is in the game he might as well stay around at least until convention."

Despite Democrats' urgings for Sanders to step aside, the Vermont senator vowed Thursday that he will still be competing in Tuesday's primary in Washington, D.C., though he hasn't mentioned Gingrich's theory among his reasons for doing so.

Obama's comedic timing was great with Jimmy Kimmel, who asked did he think the Republicans were happy with Trump as their candidate. Obama looked thoughtful and with a straight faces said, "well, we are."

Then wise: "That was too easy," followed by an in depth discussion of how the utter dysfunction of the GOP is bad for the country.

I'm fine with trashing Bill, but isn't it time to leave the smitten intern he abused his power relationship with alone?

Hard to believe that intern is now 42 years old.

As is typical with a power imbalance, usually in favor of the male, Bill did fine since while Monica's been hampered, though she seems to have tried to make the best of it.

It's also typical of most every other smear Wneglia posts here: He's smearing a Democrat over behavior that she had nothing to do with, while ignoring the same behavior in the other party.

I always saw Tripp as the only real asshole in this. lying sneaking deceitful bitch tricking and exposing a young girl who was engage in a fantasy affair with the POTUS -

without Tripp, Monica has the story of a lifetime to share with her closest friends, instead of being drug through the repug congress and the media

true there was a power imbalance, as there always is with groupies of any type, but I've never heard of a groupie's fling with Mick or Jim Morrison or any other POTUS harming their life - barring a slut like Linda Tripp's involvement
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

I agree re Tripp, maybe not about the rest.

Bill wasn't Mick or Jim Morrison. Expectations were vastly different and the odds of him getting caught one way or the other relative to the potential damage to him, his programs, his legacy, the country and, as it turned out, intern Monica (young and naive enough to be manipulated by both Bill and Tripp), Hillary then and even years later (unfairly) made for it being a tawdry and poor choice.

In the GOP. ;)

It probably wouldn't be good in the long run, but I can see the attractiveness of an asshole like Trump.
