Nah. America is clearly rolling *away* from hell. Crime rates have been dropping for decades. Civil rights are being recognized and institutionalized. The act of one lone deranged gunman aside (killing of policed officers and assaults on them have been
steadily dropping for 35 years), even last week’s events are a good sign – people are standing up against remaining discrimination and demanding that it stop. There have been major improvements in environmental standards and much more. Divorce rates, abortion rates etc. have been dropping for decades.
Often religion is wrapped around bigotry in an attempt to justify it. Mr. B for example, who rather than following the Bible, cherry picks from it to force it to conform to his petty phobias and bigotries. Religion has been used to cover other crimes, like the Catholic Church’s (
still running) international pedophile exchange program and worse. But there's plenty of good news there too: The younger generation is less religious, and those that are religious are less prone to the blind faith that the bigots and con artists depend on.
Perhaps unrelated, but there’s
another interesting development: Something strange is going on in medicine. Major diseases like colon cancer, dementia and heart disease, are waning in wealthy countries, and improved diagnosis and treatment cannot fully explain it.
Those who think America is headed towards hell tend to be the bigots who oppose civil rights – first for blacks, then women, then the LGBT people. For an example, consult a mirror.
