I've never heard of toilet cops, that's your imagination running wild.Vrede too wrote:Seth Milner wrote:People wanting to impose their will on others.

The "imposing their will" thing is works both ways. You and your ilk wants to allow a 'beaver with a lever' or a 'rose with a hose' to be allowed to use women's restrooms. Your ilk consists of major corporations that threaten to move their business elsewhere if the state doesn't do what they want.
Where's the "logical and ethical consistency" in that? OTOH, state government wants to protect it's citizens privacy and safety by keeping restrooms gender defined. So, I'd have to say that each faction is wanting to impose their wills on each other.
I say drop HB2 and leave things as they were.
I stated in another post that 'transgenitaled' people have used restrooms of their choice for years, and for the most part, no one paid them any attention.
State government has the right to "impose their will on local governments" when it comes to legislative actions. That's why we have courts to decide issues if local government doesn't like it.
BTW GoCubsGo, what has Duke Energy got to do with HB2? That was a lame comment.

Always the one to see black/white, all/nothing, yes/no no matter the complexity of the issue, eh, Seth? The most despicable parts of HB2 have little if anything about people actually using a bathroom or "protecting" women and children. Answer this: what does preventing cities from establishing a minimum wage have to do with protecting women and children?
All the "protect women and children" is just smoke and mirrors to attract those easily diverted by shiny things to keep them from looking at the law in total and in context. Republicans in NC have learned it's impossible to overestimate the gullibility of enough people to keep them in office, and are obviously successful with it.

Yes, I tend to stay on the side of practicality. Why complicate any issue with should have, could have, might have, etc.?

What does your question have to do with this subject?
All the "protect women and children" is just smoke and mirrors to attract those easily diverted by shiny things to keep them from looking at the law in total and in context.
Going back to what I said earlier about transgenitals have always peed where they wanted to; so you're saying the uproar over where they pee is nothing more than a smoke screen itself? The law is really not needed, right?
Republicans in NC have learned it's impossible to overestimate the gullibility of enough people to keep them in office, and are obviously successful with it.
So it's not a rights issue; it's a political issue, Dems against Repubs, right?

Dang, Seth - it's a good thing I wasn't trying to trap you - you'd be chewing off your own foot by now.
What does the minimum wage question have to do with the topic? Because it's in the same law! And that you ignored/didn't know that kinda makes the point that the Republican's shiny object sleight of hand works on at least one person.
No, it's a rights issue. It's just that it's the Republicans who are the party currently anti-civil rights.

I suppose then that my (1) Not living in NC, and (2) my only hearing news items re the bathrooms issue in regards to HB2, (3) Not being one to let the subject be on my mind every waking moment had clouded my memory. I do recall some kind of controversy about Charlotte wanting to enact laws of it's own; the potty bill being the biggest issue. My foot's intact; crow is slightly underdone.

And liberal Democrats wanting to impose their will and personal standards on the rest of the populace under the guise of "civil rights". That's why I claim no party affiliation; it's hard to discern which group is the most lame-brained.

It's not dementia; not yet anyway. I just don't dwell on stupid shit, and I'm certainly not going to waste time looking up stupid shit just to make a point in a biased forum.

By the way Vrede, just what is a "wannabe toilet cop"? Is that something you aspire to be when you grow up?

Not to answer Vrede's question, but one example is the woman who accosted another person in the ladies room and accused her of being a "pervert trannie." Yes, it really happened. No, I don't have the link. Google it.Seth Milner wrote:By the way Vrede, just what is a "wannabe toilet cop"? Is that something you aspire to be when you grow up?

I don't want to put a lot of weight on comments in an online forum, but it would be scary to think that a person of mature age, ostensibly well-educated and living mostly in the US for their entire life could have no understanding whatsoever of basic civil rights principles. No wonder Trump has a following.

Supporting freedom, equality and tolerance is imposing their will and personal standards on the rest of the populace? No one is making you be gay or trans, though you can be if you want to. Crybaby Seth Milner fails logic, again.

Before this goes any farther, let me say other's lifestyles, hetero or homo, or where they take a piss or dump, is no business of mine.
I'm only commenting because I see what the pedophile in Charlotte did by stirring up this hornet's nest to begin with. Obviously, he has/had some personal agenda in mind.
Your ilk is demanding the acceptance of practices and lifestyles that over the centuries have been deemed unclean, un-natural, and disgusting by heterosexuals. Suddenly, these practices are being shoved in their faces with a "accept it or else" attitude. If I were to publicly ostracize a homosexual or a Black on the street, I could be arrested for a hate crime; OTOH, if a homosexual or Black were to do the same to me, either I'd still be arrested or told to move on. My point in all this is that people are slowly beginning to accept homosexuality and transgenderism, and it still has to be a subject that will eventually lose it's media attraction. The bathroom fiasco was only a part of HB2 that re-ignited the fire of homophobia.
Acceptance of homosexuality or transgenderism is not going to happen overnight despite the screams of "civil rights" or the demand from the left that people must accept it.

Re: The homophobic thread :>
Figures not sourced, but according to Progress NC Action:
Add that to the time and money that McCrory and the Leg have spent on HB2, themselves, and the economic hit to NC from business, tourist and entertainer boycotts. I've seen estimates as high as $100 million, but don't know the basis for them.Gov. McCrory and politicians in Raleigh have already spent $176,000 in taxpayer money defending HB 2 - enough to pay the starting salaries for five teachers. And that’s just the start.
In this year’s budget, McCrory diverted $500,000 from DISASTER RELIEF to defend HB 2. We’re glad McCrory agrees that HB 2 is a disaster, but there’s a much cheaper way to fix the problem: Repeal it.

How appropriate it came from "disaster funds." Given that HB2 is a major disaster. And why aren't state legislature candidates hammering incumbents over this head with this?

Because LGBTQ, civil libertarians and judges can take the heat for it without their having to get any of the enthusiastically nasty assaults from the slight minority (?) of NC haters. If it weren't for that, we could talk about local control of things that don't have to be decided by the central planners
in Raleigh for everyone in this friggin' long and diverse state.
