Charter Schools - another republicon idea to steal from the
Charter Schools - another republicon idea to steal from the taxpayer, I can't wait until they privatize social security
principal makes $824,000 in failing private charter school while remainder of school budget for everything else is $366,042

An Orange County charter school that gave its principal a $519,000 departure payout was an academic failure that struggled to provide its students with basic materials and qualified teachers, an evaluation by the school district shows.
In 2011-12, NorthStar High School's directors paid Principal Kelly Young more than twice as much money as they spent on the school's educational program.
Including her annual salary, bonuses and payout, Young took home at least $824,000 in taxpayer money that year, not including payments she continues to receive for winding down the school's operations.
By comparison, the school spent $366,042 on instruction, including teacher salaries, last school year, according to an audit paid for by the school.
Because charter schools do not have to report their principals' salaries in Florida, it is unclear how many might have contracts or salaries similar to Young's.
None of the charter board's members returned calls for comment Wednesday. But they adopted a resolution June 14 calling her payout "well-deserved and earned for her years of dedicated service at a below-market rate of compensation."
Charter schools are privately run public schools with fewer regulations than traditional public schools. Like all public schools in Florida, they get state money based on their student population.
School boards must authorize charters – but have little oversight authority once they are opened. Expanding charter schools and school choice are priorities of Gov. Rick Scott and the Republican Legislature.
but like mittens says, we gotta get the gubberment out of our schools. ol mitt has a buddy that ownes a for profit college with similar numbers

I will go record of being in favor of them if they get better results. Now, BP and Vrede can chase their own tails.

I am about results, not about feeling good about something. If throwing money at an effort is not working - STOP IT. Can we say our public school system?

They don't. There's little to no accountability.Supsalemgr wrote:I will go record of being in favor of them if they get better results. Now, BP and Vrede can chase their own tails.
In Florida, the cowardly legislature has placed a constitutional amendment on the ballot called "Freedom of Religion." Has nothing to do with freedom of religion. It's a bill to transfer dollars from public education to religious schools that don't have to have certified teachers or give the same tests or face any of the accountability that public schools do.
If it passes, I'm going to open a madrassa and sue if I don't get funding.

I was referring to the public school system generally, not just Henderson County.Vrede wrote:What's wrong with our Henderson County public school system that we should "STOP IT"?

Never said that. I go back to my original point which is public school systems would serve their citizens better if the federal government was not involved. Our lib friends keep screaming for more funding and we have been throwing money at public education for fifty years. What has happened, the results are worse.

I posted stop wasting money, not doing away with public schools. I am sorry Vrede cannot comprehend my post. However, libs cannot understand more money does not guarantee success if there is a bad business model. Our public school system is a failed model - once again- look at results over the past fifty years.
