The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

They are all far wealthier and more talented in multiple fields than homerfobe ever was or will be. If he wants to blame his lack of dope smoking, fine, but I think there's more to it than that.

- A professor of Davidson College in 1855

"Large numbers of these youngsters belong to organized gangs of thieves and cut-throats, and are in the regular employ of old criminals who teach them the tricks of the trade. Many such have no homes. Some cannot even return to the gang’s headquarters, unless the day’s profit amounts to a stipulated sum. From these thousands of young desperadoes, the chief mass of hardened criminals is recruited. Half the number of persons actually convicted of crimes are youths who have not reached the age of discretion."
- 1831, as quoted in The Atlantic Monthly of December 1926

"We are living in a decadent and dying age. Youth is corrupt, lacking in respect for elders, impatient of restraint. Age-old truth is doubted and the teaching of the fathers is questioned. The signs of the time forecast the destruction of the world at an early date."
- Egyptian tomb, 10BC

"Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common. Children no longer obey their parents. Every man wants to write a book, and the end of the world is evidently approaching."
- Tablet from 4800 years ago (2800 B. C.) now in the Municipal Museum at Istanbul.
“The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.”

 Darn, I thought about confirming it and blew off doing so. Thanks.

Your link says 1907, closer. ;) Also:
1908, “Schools of Hellas: an Essay on the Practice and Theory of Ancient Greek Education from 600 to 300 BC” by Kenneth John Freeman, (First impression 1907), page 74, Macmillan and Co., London.
So, depending on Kenneth John Freeman's accuracy the sentiment and period still fit even if it wasn't Socrates, and homerfobe remains a whiny crybaby.

An entity matching the definition of the entity who created the universe can't possibly be just male or female. But if "He" is, then we remember "He" created males first, and females as an afterthought and male derivative. And yes, "He" has certainly done some fabulous design work. And then there was the story of Joseph and the "coat of many colors," not to mention the rainbow itself. Hmmmmm.

I wasn't speaking of the guys by name; rather the image that they are portraying. Regardless of their ages, they're most likely rich, but still braindead.

Top image: Three black guys in dark clothes, and a white guy in white clothes with a gold chain and making a gesture.

Bottom image: Three black guys in dark clothes, and a white guy in white clothes with a gold chain and making a gesture.

Neither image whose any sign of drug use, drug culture or drug paraphernalia. (Incense, perhaps?)

What you say about the top image would apply to the bottom one too.

For all you faggot-hugging, queerdo-loving, God-hating liberals who had rather see this country wallowing in filth and debauchery, here's some refreshing news.

Read it and weep assholes, call your ACLU shitheads to appeal.

Federal court OKs Christian prayers at county board meetings

The Charlotte Observer fills in a few more details....
Rowan County commissioners again can open their meetings with prayer – at least for now.
[...]
In his dissent, 4th Circuit member Harvie Wilkinson, said the commissioners’ prayers sent a message of “exclusion” to those who did not ascribe to their beliefs.
“... It is the combination of the role of the commissioners, their instructions to the audience, their invocation of a single faith and the local governmental setting that threatens to blur the line between church and state to a degree unimaginable” in the earlier Supreme Court case, Wilkinson wrote.
Bill Marshall, an expert on issues of church and state at the University of North Carolina law school, said the fact that Wilkinson is one of the most respected conservative legal voices in the country makes his criticism all the more powerful.
[...]
The American Civil Liberties Union, which sued the commissioners in March 2013 on behalf of three Rowan County residents, said it will ask the full 4th Circuit to hear the case.
[...]
Monday’s ruling was welcomed by social conservatives as a clear victory. But the celebration may be short-lived. Once known as perhaps the country’s most conservative federal appeals court, the 4th Circuit today is now one of the most liberal. Two-thirds of its members have been selected by Democratic presidents Bill Clinton or Barack Obama.
So only a temporary loss, one that even conservatives object to. It won't stand for long.

An article I read made clear what the Charlotte Observer alludes to - It was just luck of the draw to have 3 cons on a the left-leaning 4th Circuit, 1 of whom dissented, to be the sub-panel that decided this case. Also, there was the line drawn by the 2014 U.S. Supreme Court case involving the town of Greece, N.Y. that this case clearly crosses. So, 2 opportunities to likely overturn con judges Steven Agee and Dennis Shedd.

Dismissed because of lack of standing of those bringing suit. (they all got married without incident and could not show harm from the magistrate law).
The court did not rule on whether the law was Constitutional. One of those things some people refer to as "getting off on a technicality."
