2016 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

White Nationalist’s Pro-Trump Robocall: Evan McMullin Is Gay
William Johnson, a white-nationalist Trump supporter, is robo-calling Utahns claiming that Trump’s main competition in the state is a closeted homosexual.

Conflict amongst white nationalists, Trump, con Evan McMullin, a literal and figurative Johnson, Mormons, racists, conservative commentator Bill Kristol, xenophobes, Trump spokesman Hope Hicks and homophobes, all set in Utah - what's not to like about this article?

RCP:

North Carolina: Trump vs. Clinton vs. Johnson - Tie

Florida: Trump vs. Clinton vs. Johnson vs. Stein - Trump +0.7

If Trump wins what ABC calls the remaining battlegrounds - NC, NV (Trump +1.6) & FL - then somehow picks up WI (Clinton +5.4), it'll be a 269-269 tie and the GOP House decides. I don't think it's restricted to a current candidate, though.

The polls could be getting messed up by:
-- Cons that won't admit out loud that they're voting for Hillary.
-- Independents that won't admit out loud that they're voting for Trump.
-- People that won't admit out loud that they're too disgusted to vote for POTUS.

I doubt they'll cancel each other out, but don't know which way the swing will be.

The key to all polls is the selection of participants and the underlying assumptions, such as demographics. Nor do they factor in ground game organization. And the news people love to keep up the "excitement" of a horse race. It's still Hillary.

True, and I'm not saying that discrepancies will change the electoral outcome - Trump's hurdle is too steep. However, polls can't account for dishonesty and even people lying to themselves. I'll try to remember to post the polls for FL, SC, NC and the US on Tuesday and we'll see how accurate they were on Wednesday.

People lying to pollsters is a common theory, but I don't know if it's real. I've never been in a poll for President, but I can't see the reasoning that would prompt me to tell the pollster I'm voting for Trump. Seems I'd want to build my candidate's strength, not dilute it. Also, I'd have to be pretty paranoid that saying I'm for Hillary (or not) would somehow come back to bite me - or for that matter even make much difference in the poll or surely not the election. But then, I'm not among the "poorly educated" and "poorly informed" Trump supporters, so who knows?

I've never got a call from any pollster that I can recall. If I did get one, I'd tell them that I was torn between voting for the North Pole or the South Pole and would then ask if they've seen my missing polecat.

During the last off-year election cycle, I was plagued by calls from RW push-pollsters, trying to force a response from narrowly-confined answers to bullshit questions. I tried hanging up, but the only thing that worked was to interrupt and tell him/her, in raised voice, that, "I would not vote for any GOP teabagger sack of shit with a fucking gun to my head!" Did that about twice, and I apparently disappeared from their call lists.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

Obama's @POTUS Twitter account with its 11 million followers would be handed over to Trump. Obama's Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Medium accounts would also be transitioned over.

That's the one bright spot in this. God's punishment will be worse for social media users.

I used to lie to pollsters just to mess them up, but I got on too many GOP mail & call lists. Now, call screening keeps me from ever getting polled.

I could see some Trump voters lying out of shame, the ones with some conscience left, even if there's no realistic way it could come back at them.

POTUS:
Nate Silver gives Hillary Clinton a 75.4% of winning the presidency, but only a 60-40 chance of winning NC.
The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Hillary only up by 3% in NC.
Too close here, crap. I'm holding my nose and voting for Hillary, and hereby accept my share of the responsibility for the next 4 or 8 years. :( This was made a bit easier by Johnson being such a dodo.

Senate, House 11, State offices and State Senate 48:
All Dem except that I'm voting for incumbent Dietz (R) for NC Court of Appeals. Other than being GOP I couldn't find any knocks against him and Rozier (D) doesn't impress me. Not all of my other votes were automatic Dem. I did a bit of research and still settled on them for differing reasons.

NC District 29B Court:
No votes. All 4 seats are uncontested and all 4 incumbents are registered GOP.

NC House 117:
No vote. Uncontested McGrady (R) has gotten my vote in the past, but that was before he became such a nasty GOP drone.

Henderson County Commission:
No votes. Both seats are uncontested and both incumbents are GOP.

Henderson County Board of Education:
Seeking advice from Babs Newton and Eva Ritchey. 4 GOP are running against 4 undeclared incumbents that voted to keep Hendersonville Elementary segregated by race and class. Maybe I'll write in some radical educators. Any suggestions besides Angela Davis and Bill Ayers?

Soil and Water Conservation District:
Uncontested. Wrote in Bernie!

Henderson County Sales and Use Tax:
For. I'm not a big fan of regressive sales taxes, but when they're the only option offered to fund government services . . .

Found this:
The INDY’s (Research Triangle) Endorsements for Council of State

Lieutenant Governor

Linda Coleman

She has political experience, from chairing the Wake County Board of Commissioners to serving in the state House of Representatives, but Linda Coleman's biggest strength might just be the man she's running against. To put it simply, Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest is dangerous. He's an embarrassment to the state and a foremost defender of HB 2, who once said that "transgenderism is a feeling." As his campaign slogan—"Run, Forest, Run"—suggests, he is not a smart man. Indeed, if a reanimated corpse were running against Dan Forest, we would probably support it. So, yeah, we're not the biggest Linda Coleman fans out there, but we're damn sure going to vote for her.

Forgot to mention:
NC Supreme Court
Mike Morgan

Barack Obama Endorses Judge Mike Morgan for NC Supreme Court!

BTW, Mitt Romney did worse with Mormons than Bush II did. I'm looking forward to seeing how much they like this year's Defender of the Faith.

New agey millennial "hippy" types trying to be edgy: "Wake up sheeple, it's all rigged. Voting doesn't matter anyway. You're all too stupid to realize this! #chemtrails"

"By voting you consent to part of a system you never had a choice in in the first place. I never consented to be governed anyway! #anarchy."

... As all the old folk flood into polling stations to vote in presidential Andlocal elections, which directly affect all of our day to day lives.

I guess I should probably encourage these types, because the less people that voluntarily decide to not vote, the more power I have in voting.

I'm not sure that pocketsofthefuture counts as a "New agey millennial 'hippy' type". His video titles look more con-leaning wingnutty to me - https://www.youtube.com/user/pocketsofthefuture/videos.
