The National Republican Congressional Committee bought up hundreds of URLs ahead of the 2014 election cycle and has created nearly 20 websites appearing to support Democratic candidates in all but the small print, a spokesman for the campaign confirmed Thursday.
The websites include donation forms that accept credit cards and encourage viewers to contribute up to $500, but instead of money going to the Democratic candidates, it goes to the NRCC.

The Republicans didn't invent political dirty tricks-they just raised it to a new level.bannination wrote:http://www.latimes.com/nation/politics/ ... z2skRIEps9

BTW- if Dem's are that stupid to contribute to these websites, they deserve what they get.

I feel the same way about people that get duped by Nigerian scammers. However I do feel bad for older people that get duped by people like that.
Anyone that runs scams like that is about the lowest form of human being.

No, they don't "deserve what they get." Sure, everyone should be certain of where they're clicking, and even more certain of where they're sending their money, but if it were always that easy, there wouldn't be a scam problem. Fake sites often look real. In fact, some may look like the real one(s) you've already visited. Fraud is fraud. Theft is theft, and crime is crime. I guess rape victims "deserve what they get" too, for going out with somebody who appeared OK. Oh wait, we're talking about Republicans - of course they do.

Other than the title, everything on the website explains why she should be defeated, and how donations can help accomplish that. If people are that easily "duped", they shouldn't be voting.

And then there's the url. Nothing misleading about that. And the font size. And the "good" picture, compared to the "evil witch" pictures the Republicans usually use. And the blatantly false or distorted content in the "small print."

No, this forum is fully protected from scammers, for example, just enter your credit card number of the forum.... Here I'll enter mine:Mr.B wrote:So....let's look at those 12 X's that have appeared on top of the threads....isn't that an invitation for scammers/spammers?
****-****-****-****
See it totally censors it. I can even enter my banking password: **************.
See, no problem at all! Go ahead, you try it!
(I'll fix those (X's) after Tuesday, actually switching themes to something that's more cell phone friendly. No one should notice much of a difference except our cell phone users in that it'll look much better on small devices.)

Thanks! Using a random radical-electro-magnetical digital imaging screening, I was able to retrieve your numbers!
(all I need is the 3 digit security code off the back of your card...please post it ASAP.)
I promise to not give it out to anyone else.......

I never donate to political candidates unless it's a small gathering where frank conversation and contraband are in equal supply. I advise everyone to follow this policy.

Re: Republicans: The new nigerian scammers
So whassup with this big, black "TODAY WE FIGHT BACK BACK" banner that's made it's way onto the BRD webpage?
Who you fightin' Banni? You gonna go outside and have a snowball fight? Who all's comin'?
OK I checked it out..... TWFB....good grief!
Everyone's got their step-ins in a wad over this surveillance thingy that's supposedly tracking their every keystroke......you know what? I've nothing to hide, so who cares what they're watching? Also, what difference is there in this so-called "privacy invasion" and the same crap that every computer owner has
gone through since PC ownership became affordable for everyone to have one?...I mean, you can't log into a website or page that someone isn't tracing your IP and storing your browsing habits and then sending you junk mail or slapping useless advertising across your screen, and lord knows what'n'all else.
I use AdBlock and it blocks that junk, but it doesn't keep them from seeing you. I delete my cookies and clear my browsing history, but that doesn't guarantee they didn't already latch onto you.
Mass paranoia.......

Don't be so paranoid.
This shortly summarizes why everyone should be concerned in words much more concise than I could ever write.
Bruce Schneier, a computer security expert and cryptographer, expressed opposition, citing Cardinal Richelieu's statement "If one would give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest man, I would find something in them to have him hanged", referring to how a state government can find aspects in a person's life in order to prosecute or blackmail that individual.[17] Schneier also argued "Too many wrongly characterize the debate as "security versus privacy." The real choice is liberty versus control."[17]

It's gotten worse. Instead of a Nigerian prince I get mail from some guy named Trump now, telling me he needs to hide assets because he's going to be President the USA.

To be fair, I've been getting mail from Democratic candidates for decades telling me they're going to act like Democrats.
