Re: The Religion Thread
From wikipedia:
In psychology, cognitive dissonance is the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time; performs an action that is contradictory to their beliefs, ideas, or values; or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas or values.[1][2]
Leon Festinger's theory of cognitive dissonance focuses on how humans strive for internal consistency. An individual who experiences inconsistency tends to become psychologically uncomfortable, and is motivated to try to reduce this dissonance, as well as actively avoid situations and information likely to increase it

Re: The Religion Thread
Since my post at about 3 today, I've been doing a lot of thinking; you all are absolutely right!
Come Sunday, I'm going to stand up in church and declare that God and the Bible is a complete myth, because I have a very knowledge group of forum friends who have shown me the error of my beliefs and understanding of a complete work of fantasy we call the "Holy Bible".
Any fool should know that the most intricate and delicate parts of the human anatomy, especially the brain which has the capability of a computer if man were able to harness it's knowledge capabilities, came into existence because of microscopic life forms that crawled out of a slime pit and developed legs and arms that gave it capabilities to crawl, walk, climb, kill for food, and multiply by an unseen force called evolution. I'll tell them that this creation stuff is pure bunk!
Any fool should know that the protective layers around the earth that protect life on earth from the deadly radiation from the sun came about by this same evolutionary process which mysteriously formed the exact mixture of elements that allows man to survive, and the water that falls from the sky for necessary nourishment and sustainment of all life comes from clouds bumping together.
If God did exist and had created mankind, he would have certainly blessed the union between two men or two women, and the words "go forth and multiply" is a man-made myth because any fool knows that a man cannot fertilize another man through his anus or mouth nor can a woman fertilize another woman through her vagina or anus by using phallus' or her oral digit. The absolute truth is, this so-called "Holy Bible" is the works of vivid imaginations because a loving God, if he/she existed would never tell his children that their 'love' life is disgusting, and he would never inspire a writer to write such.
This could go on, but I'm so happy that you folks here so lovingly convinced me that you all are so right and I am so wrong! Like Banni and any good Jehovah's Witness knows, "the truth will set you free!" .. I can't wait to get to church; I'll show the rest where they're wrong and then we will feel much more aligned with society when we begin to learn new vocabularies, call others hateful and vulgar names, and spew curse words with every sentence .. yep, we gonna have fun mingling with the rest of all y'all...!
NOT.

That's not evolution. That's entropy -- try not to look stupid. It's certainly not an exact mixture or finely tuned, but it's within a range where life is possible. Intelligent life hasn't and isn't possible in a lot of places on the earth. Most of the time earth has been around has be inhospitable to all life. Who knows though, you may take the stance that the earth is only 6000 years old, but since you only believe parts of the bible you want to believe, who knows! Water falls from the sky due to the water cycle, not because clouds bump together. I guess that's not the strangest of your beliefs though. You're idea makes me wonder why other planets have clouds too though, that's weird if they're just here for life on earth.Mr.B wrote: Any fool should know that the protective layers around the earth that protect life on earth from the deadly radiation from the sun came about by this same evolutionary process which mysteriously formed the exact mixture of elements that allows man to survive, and the water that falls from the sky for necessary nourishment and sustainment of all life comes from clouds bumping together.

Less aligned with society -- not being a Christian is putting a target on yourself here in the good old U.S.A and especially here in the bible belt. You will get called vulgar names, told you're going to hell and tortured forever, and be threatened here while still alive because for some reason they don't trust their god to do "his" own punishments.Mr.B wrote:This could go on, but I'm so happy that you folks here so lovingly convinced me that you all are so right and I am so wrong! EVERYTHING on this earth did originally come from dirt; where do you think it/we originally originated from? Even if life formed from a slime ball, did it fall from a tree..? (Opps...wait..!) Every competent scientist does, moron - natural selection and hundreds of millions of year. Your voluntary ignorance is not our problem, but it is our entertainment.

Big Bang, moron. The only case you can make that we can't disprove is that God created the conditions that led to the Big Bang, entropy and natural evolution. In fact, your goofy denial of this is clearly just your lack of faith in your God's abilities. I won't ask you to try not to look too stupid in reply, you don't have it in you.

Ummm, that is your cherry-picking, moron. You support and approve of what supports your bigotry and blow off things from the same books that doesn't, routinely committing those biblical sins yourself.

Mr.B is admitting that the only sex he's ever had is for the purpose of procreation and he sees no point to it otherwise. That's tragic, and it shows utter disdain for every sexual partner he's ever had.
In fact, not that facts ever sink in with him, we are a communal species. Not every member has to procreate for the species to thrive, as is true with other species. It's thought that gay tendencies improve intraspecies cooperation. Plus, we've now come to the point that the breeders are the greatest threat to species survival, so his entire argument falls apart.
