OK, let's call the quote unconfirmed. It only has two sources so far.
The STORY however, is easily confirmed. Confirmed by both ABC and the state legislature's records. My comment stands:
A group of eight male GOP reps killed a bill that would have guaranteed workplace accommodations to pregnant South Dakotans.
Their more inbred and stupid followers will continue to blame abortion on Democrats and lib'ruls.
Mr.B's recent posts raise an interesting theory about Republicans:
Saint Reagan promised to end abortion. But once elected he turned his back the abortion crowd. Bush II promised to end abortion. But even with a couple years with full control of the Presidency AND House AND Senate - the Democrats couldn't have stopped him - he and the Republican Party as a whole..... forgot?
But abortion rates have been steadily dropping for 40 years. And probably longer;
Contemporary estimates of mid-19th century abortion rates in the United States suggest between 20–25% of all pregnancies in the United States during that era ended in abortion.
That drop isn't thanks to Republicans. It's thanks to women being treated as fellow humans and being allowed to make their own decisions. And people ignoring the church bans on birth control.
Which brings us to Mr.B's reasoning:
Mr.B wrote:billy.pilgrim wrote:"do you know why republicans voted to prevent Medicare from negotiating with drug companies"
$$$$$$ ... in their pockets and the pockets of the drug companies.
That's what I meant by they're in no hurry to find cures for diseases .... too much money and too many jobs will be lost.
Republicans are milking the abortion issue for votes and donations. But abortion rates are dropping. What better way to keep the rates up than to ensure that pregnancy leads to job loss and homelessness.
