rstrong.. move over, you have company coming!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I'm still waiting for April to see if Ted Nugent will die or go to prison, as he predicted last April at an NRA convention. I bet he chickens out and just shuts up instead.

Not really; Nugent had to make a command appearance with the SS for his veiled threats of violence (or any other action which results in death or prison) so that's a little more wingnutty than threatening to move to another country. Are you beginning to recognize your comprehension / reality problem yet?

The ones that actually go through with this pledge, will be welcome here. Here's why:

Time and again people around me complain about where they live; the weather, the lack of jobs, the politicians, etc. etc., etc.

My response is, "So move. If the grass is greener elsewhere, pack everything up, find a new job, and move there."

Then they tell me why they can't move. Too much hassle, too much risk, etc.

So I tell them to start making plans and arrangements NOW, for a move in a year or two. Take the time to make good arrangements, to cut the risk and hassle.

But they don't. They're trapped in their personal inertia, they stay where they are, in a life or a career they don't much like, and they complain about it...but they don't actually do anything to change it. This will be true for most of the "If Romney doesn't win, I'm going to Canada" crowd.

But the ones who actually recognize that they have a choice, who recognize and accept the risk, who make the arrangements and go - even the pro-Romney ones - would tend to be rather great citizens. It's one of the reasons why immigrants tend to do better in school and open more businesses. We're getting the few who actually make the leap to a new country, rather than just talk about it.

Beyond that, there has been much laughter over people on the right claiming that they're moving to Canada to escape a left-wing government and the coming of socialized medicine.

Which isn't really fair. Our government is arguably further right and more conservative - in deeds, not election wingnuttery - than the Republican Party. Canada has been less socialist than the US for a long time now. We don't even have socialized medicine, just partially socialized insurance, and there's a solid conservative case to be made for it.

Edit: Obviously the ones with criminal records will be turned back. Unless it's for pot convictions, in which case they'll be handed better pot as they're welcomed in.

Veiled threats? The ones I heard weren't veiled.

Chicken out, yes, but Shut Up? Much as I would welcome it, I'm not holding my breath. :silent:

Guess I was trying to be conservative in my assesment; I wasn't sure of the intensity of his wingnuttery. He says he never did drugs; maybe he should start.

I'll be moving to England to escape the socialisms.
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.

Good luck with that. VAT tax, anyone? Health care for all?

You are an odd duck, JTA (well, unless you were being factious; then, kudos!). :)

It's Friday night. A beer is in my hand. Metal is playing on my speakers. I am BSing on the internet with people I do not know nor will ever meet. Work is still several days a way. All is right in the world right now.

Cheers, JTA ... Image

Thing is, you'll never know who you might meet from these interactions.
I have met many, they have become friends, and, for that, I'm grateful.

Not all of them have been progressives, like me, but we still remain friends (even in real life).
