Meanwhile:
Scientists SMASH five of the biggest mysteries of modern physics
An absurdly ambitious new theory extends the standard model of particle physics, Cathal O'Connell reports.
Pretty cool if it holds up in experiments.
That's the thing about science - it can be repressed and delayed by moronic RWNJs and greedy corporations, but the truths are still there.

CBC: Oldest traces of life on Earth found in Quebec, dating back roughly 3.8 billion years
Carl Sagan once remarked that the origin of life cannot be that hard, or it would not have popped up so quickly once Earth became hospitable.
That older limit, 4.3 billion years, is about as far back as we have evidence for liquid water on Earth. While there is some debate as to whether or not the the age of the rock in the Nuvvuagittuq Greenstone Belt is 3.8 billion years old or 4.3 billion years old, Jonathan O'Neill, assistant professor at the University of Ottawa's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, believes it to be on the older side. But even if the rock is younger than that, it would still make their finding the oldest record of life on Earth, by 100 million years.

I was perfectly fine with our all being descended from Africans, but being descended from Canadians is unacceptable.

Relax; that's an alternate timeline.Vrede too wrote:I was perfectly fine with our all being descended from Africans, but being descended from Canadians is unacceptable.
If Trump is your President, you're in the timeline where the Confederacy won.

That timeline is unacceptable, too.

Saw that a couple' weeks ago. It is very cool.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

So, something that Trump has done that actually might be positive.... other than removing funding for climate science.Honored to sign S.442 today. With this legislation, we support @NASA's scientists, engineers, and astronauts in the… https://t.co/Z5VwluvJQx

It's a Ted Cruz bill. So, it might be good for NASA, it might not. I haven't stumbled on an analysis yet.bannination wrote:So, something that Trump has done that actually might be positive.... other than removing funding for climate science.

I've not either, but it at least looked like the funding wasn't reduced. :thumbsup:Vrede too wrote:It's a Ted Cruz bill. So, it might be good for NASA, it might not. Phil Plait: Trump's 2018 NASA budget: The good, the bad, and the very, very ugly
Of course, this is only a budget *proposal*. Congress will make its own changes. Granted they can blame everything and anything on Trump, far more than they would do with an actual Republican President.
