My neighbor brought me an interesting piece of mail today. It is a "Vote History Audit," listing seven residents in our neighborhood, including me. This garbage gives my name, address, and says I didn't vote in 2004 or 2008, which is a bald faced lie. Our mail carrier brought our two weeks of held mail today, and I didn't get one. The neighbor is tagged as voting in 2004, but not 2008, also inaccurate.
Anybody else get one?
Dear *****:
Thank you for your dedication to voting in past presidential elections. Our American democracy is stronger because of civic-minded citizens like you.
We have conducted an audit of public voting records in your neighborhood, and wanted to present you with findings of past civic participation in your community.
Again, I would like to thank you for your active civic participation. I hope the above vote history record is informative.
As a further service, we will be updating our records after the expected high turnout for the Tuesday, Nov 6, 2012 election. We will then send an updated vote history audit to you and your neighbors with the results.[/i]

OK- voter registration is public information, even did/did not vote is, I suppose. But this pisses me off, sharing my information with the neighborhood, incorrect information at that. Why isn't my husband on the list? Why seven seemingly random residents? Why the heck does this non-profit organization think I'm remotely interested in them?
Our Name Defines Us – Americans for Limited Government.
We are leaders in identifying, exposing and working with Congress and state legislatures to prevent the continued expansion of government. Never shying away from the big issues, ALG is perpetually ahead of the issue curve taking on issues like the $100 billion International Monetary Fund line of credit while others are still trying to spell IMF.
This aggressive, non-partisan approach to the threats posed by an ever expanding government to our basic freedoms gives us the ability to honestly present the limited government perspective both inside the beltway and most importantly around the country.
Another slimey right-wing bunch. I'm guessing they're trying for a "we're watching you" sort of thing, even though they're using public records. Closet nazis.
ALG is being criticized for sending a flier claiming to be a voter history audit. This audit tells the names, addresses, and voting history of your household and that of your neighbors. It not only gives information that most people wish to keep private, it gave out inaccurate information that lead to a misrepresentation of a voter's voting history. It should also be noted that in some of this fliers it listed the names of minors living in the household, which could never have been received from looking at public voting records.
The group has apparently sponsored legislation, kind of like ALEC. Rumors of Koch funding were denied.
If people weren't getting so greedy, crooked, mean, uncaring, conniving, murderous, covetous, doped up, etc., etc., etc.,
there would be no need for so much governmental mandates. Oh yeah, that applies to both sides of the fence.

Got it in one!
Americans for Limited Government is run by Howard Rich. He worked with Charles Koch in the leadership of the Libertarian Party, and sits on the board of directors of the Cato Institute, founded and funded by Koch.
In 2010, ATR received $4,189,000 from the Center to Protect Patients' Rights, another 501(c)4 that acted as a conduit for around $55 million in secret funding distributed to other nonprofit groups that attacked Democrats in the 2010 elections.

"Americans for Limited Government, the tax-exempt organization that bankrolled a series of controversial [takings] ballot initiatives this year, raised 99 percent of its $5.4 million in total contributions in 2005 from just three donors..."
As for k9nanny's letter:
In late September 2008 Rich wrote a letter on Americans for Limited Government Foundation letterhead to (11,000) donors to what he described as "left wing organizations". In it Rich referred obliquely to Tom Matzzie's Accountable America group which had written to supporters of conservative organizations and candidates warning of possible scrutiny by the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Election Commission.
"As a donor to one of more of these organizations and efforts, you have been able to engage in these activities without notice, operating in relative obscurity. I am writing to inform you that this will no longer be the case. Your name has been put in our database. we are monitoring all reports of a wide variety of leftists organizations. As your name appears in subsequent reports, it is our intent to publicize your involvement in your local community," Rich warned. The letter was also accompanied by a supporting memo from Frank M. Northam from the law firm Webster, Chamberlain & Bean.
Rich told NPR's Peter Overby that ALG was sending letters to donors as "if you're supporting a group that's into some illegal activity, that, you know, might not be good for you."
To answer k9nanny's questions: "Why isn't my husband on the list? Why seven seemingly random residents? Why the heck does this non-profit organization think I'm remotely interested in them?"
You and the other seemingly random residents were probably in Rich's database as a left-wing supporter or possible left-wing donor, while your husband probably was not. The lie about not voting was no doubt a deliberate one to shame you in the eyes of your neighbors - as opposed to the barratry in their 2008 letters.
First they came for my guns, and I said nothing because I have none.
Then they came for my money, and I said nothing because I am broke.
Then they came for my cigarettes, and I said nothing because I don't smoke.
Now they come for my government.
When will the pillaging stop?
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.

What is your "government" and how do you believe it's being taken away (or being "pillaged")?
Also, last I checked, everyone who wants a gun has one, everyone who wants a cigarette has one, everyone who has, and has had money, still has it (unless they spent it). So, what's up with your "government?"

Expanding government = spreading government more thinly = less to go around = limited government. Proof this is just another socialism.
QED.

Hardly a "QED" but keep trying, JTA. You'll get into the realm of sentience one day.

I see you offer no rebuttal.
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.
Such is unnecessary when one, like yourself, produces nothing to support his own argument in a cogent way.
I see you've also offered no rebuttal to my assertion that people can still buy guns and cigarettes (if they so desire) and the fact the wealthiest Americans still have plenty of money.

I'm a proud government employee.
Don't worry, you're safe.
You're vested, right?
What are you worried about as a government employee?
It's the 'Pubs trying to take your job away from you, strip any benefits you might have and hand it over to a capitalist (I like capitalism, BTW, but not in this instance) and privatize every sector of the government they can.
