... Dennis Alexander was teaching a course about gun safety for his Administration of Justice class when his gun went off at 1:20 p.m.

Alexander was pointing his gun at the ceiling when it fired. Pieces of the ceiling fell to the ground.

A news release from the Seaside Police Department said no one suffered "serious injuries." One 17-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries when fragments from the bullet ricocheted off the ceiling and lodged into his neck, the student's father, Fermin Gonzales, told KSBW.

The teacher had just told the class that he wanted to make sure his gun wasn't loaded, when the gun fired ...

But no one at the school checked to make sure that all of the students were uninjured, Gonzales said. The school day resumed as normal, and Seaside Police Department officers launched an investigation.

The 17-year-old boy's parents were shocked when he returned home with blood on his shirt and bullet fragments in his neck. The student's parents rushed him to a hospital for X-rays.

"He's shaken up, but he's going to be OK," Gonzales told KSBW. "I'm just pretty upset that no one told us anything and we had to call the police ourselves to report it." ...

It's sad that schools have to discuss such things, but it's not as crazy as it sounds. A bucket of rocks in the closet is unlikely to increase the danger to students and staff the way an armed teacher does. Every active shooter training has 3 components:

Run, if you can.
Hide, if you can't run, including barricading.
Fight, if you have to, using whatever tools are available. I've heard books and cans of food mentioned as throw-able weapons. A classroom full of rock throwing students would be pretty formidable for a shooter.

But if on-campus police rarely deter school shootings, they do reinforce the school-to-prison pipeline — the same pipeline that excludes black children across the country from school at three times the rate of their white peers, despite research showing that children of all races misbehave at similar rates....

Successful and money-making companies often go under regardless. They get bought out by some hedge fund, which then puts them deep in debt to pay their investors a dividend. They sell off the company's properties for a quick profit, leaving it in more debt for rent. And then they walk away.

This is what's happening with Red Lobster and Olive Garden:

Starboard Value previously pulled the stunt with Red Lobster, selling the real-estate out from under 500 restaurants to a "real estate investment trust," freeing $1.5B for dividends to investors like Starboard, leaving Red Lobster limping along paying rent in the locations it had previously owned, profits cut in half -- after Starboard had milked it for its giant, one-time payout.

This is a common hedge-fund scam: it's what killed Mervyn's, costing 30,000 jobs after the business's hedge-fund owner sold the stores' property out from under it, breaking the business's back on rent payments for property that it had once owned (the hedge fund cleaned up from the real-estate sale).

As your New York Post story says, Remington was bought by Cerberus Capital Management a few years ago. Cerberus gets a mention in the Rolling Stone's Greed and Debt: The True Story of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital:

As your New York Post story says, when someone wanted to buy the company off Cerberus, "Remington passed and ended up borrowing more money to pay investors a dividend, raising its debt load to more than $1 billion." The “good guy with a gun” meme generally applies to civilians, not cops.
Cops are different from the teachers and staff that some want to arm.
SROs are a fact of life now, there just isn't that much active opposition to them.
The shooter had several minutes and many other potential targets, but he only shot the girl. This is highly suggestive that there never were going to be other victims.
