I think I might generally agree with him.

Without passing judgment on his career or the affair, we sure have created a weird culture when killing tens of thousands, including thousands of innocents, earns praise and promotion but loving just one too many equals disgrace and resignation.

Where are all the cons that get so outraged when a Dem diddles?

Especially since Petraeus was "damaged goods" already - going to work for Obama and all that. The argument about Petraeus, though, isn't really so much one of personal vs. public life as it was related to his specific job. If he'd still been in the Army, he'd likely have kept his job. If he'd been in elective office, he's have surely kept his job. The extraordinary behaviour restrictions in the intelligence community may be outmoded and unnecessary, but they're still there. If he hadn't bailed, or been booted, they could not ever enforce all that "relationship" stuff with the rank and file.

Umm, you wouldn't happen to have any recent cases where that's occurred, do you? And it's a good thing they weren't doing that when Eisenhower was around.

There's a court martial for an Army general going on now at Ft. Bragg. I can't remember the general's name, but they dragged his ass back from Afghanistan to stand trial for charges of adultery, forced sodomy, and other "general" shenanigans.

Yeah, as my article said - the adultery charge is usually just an add-on if they're charged with other serious stuff.

I did not mean to suggest that I know how adultery is handled in the military, brass or otherwise. I was just posting the link re the Gen. neoplacebo mentioned - happened to hear his name on the radio while running errands.

Agreed - I started by saying Petraeus would have kept his job had he still been in the army. Neo pointed out that adultery could be a court-martial offence. I provided an article saying it is rarely applied alone, absent other bad behaviour. Neo mentione the Bragg case. You found it, with the General's name. Sure enough, he's charged with a bunch of crap. So we're all correct in our parts of the puzzle.

Actually, I'm probably more wrong than Neo, however. Before I looked, I would have bet nobody had been actually court martialed for adultery in forever.
