Wow. Notre Dame came back from 17 down in the 4th, tied it with 5" left, took its 1st lead since 3-2 with 3" left, had 2 FT's to tie with 2 seconds left, missed the 1st, should have intentionally tanked the 2nd, arrrggghhh, 82-81 Baptists.

You really don't know what happens when you double dribble with 6 seconds left in the game?
Keep up the stupid

That would make Auburn 3rd or 4th best instead of 2nd best or arguably best.

Really, who cares about 2nd, 3rd or 4th. We were in the Final Four. That's huge for Auburn. And, of course, the foul was technically a foul that never would have happened if the more than obvious double dribble had been called. And the foul itself wasn't up to the "let them play" attitude during the rest of the game.
They won, it is what it is.
Virginia doesn't deserve their spot. Go Red Raiders.
And we can always argue Best

For the Auburn Tigers faithful, this one is going to hurt for a long, long time. An absolutely scintillating national semifinal in Minneapolis ended in controversy, as Bruce Pearl's team surged to a late lead only to watch three Kyle Guy free throws punch Virginia's ticket to the national championship game following a foul call in the dying moments that will be re-litigated for years to come. The fifth-seeded Tigers, who were playing in their first Final Four, were rightly devastated-- and let their frustrations out on the referees.

First time neither team has been on the Final before in 40 years!
One could argue that VA, TT & Auburn are equally good, with VA just happening to get the trophy. But, Michigan St sucks.
Pool
17th, my VA > Duke bracket
Picks by Seeds: 18th
47th
71st
Snoop Dogg, President Obama: 80th
89th
90th
Will Ferrell: 99th, worst

OT, of course, pretty cool, VA 85-77. Biggest goat ever to champ in 1 year.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 11:17 pmAs they've been doing all tourney, TT's D was smothering. MSU held to 51 points on 32%, both season lows! I want VA and don't know what Vegas will say, but I would bet on TT straight up.
Edit: Early Vegas says VA -1 (increased to -1.5). Won't surprise me if it flips.
27% of us put VA in the Final, 8% to win it. No one put TT in the Final.

Ah.
Kind of like the way that teams such as UCF and Boise St get screwed by the Power 5 legacy conferences including both the ACC and Big 12, right?

Re: College basketball
no, not even close to similar
if they played even a half ass schedule, I would be on their side - it's unbelievable to me that you either don't see how a ucf or boise doesn't deserve to be in a playoff. They don't play anyone.
Basketball is different, the shorter games can be played with a single days rest and allows for 64 teams in a playoff. In football it's 12 games and decision time. I think #5 out of the playoff lsu said it all when they beat the whiners and the whiners kept whining that they should have been in the playoff, or the year before when they gave themselves rings and trophies and parades. and to top it off the have gone all rogue and are conducting their own investigation of the sec.
let them use their non-conference slots to play in the power-5. I watched fsu establish themselves as a contender by playing away games against anyone who would have them. I thought they were chickenshits for joining the very weak acc over an offer with the sec. although I still think their reasons were chickenshit, they made the acc better and it continues to be better.
usa has a brand new program but are beginning to play bigger teams. They have only had football since 2009 and have been div 1 since 2013. I like them, have been to a game but would feel the same if they keep their opponents light and start bullshit claiming national titles. After all, we already have bammer claiming at least 5 bogus national titles, we don't need another clown
oh there's this too. I supported the national scholarship reduction back in the 80s. It was to increase parity between small schools like boise and the big power-5 schools. The big schools hated it and saw it as something that would hurt their big conferences.
I think I'm consistent on this Vrede, I think that you are cherry picking between two very different sports.
Virginia didn't win either of their last two games without ref help. you know the ref saw the double dribble and then the sudden change from "let them play" to calling a minor bump as a foul.
still not as bad as ucf and bammer claiming fake national titles. I'm just glad my team doesn't, or at least hasn't so far. Every now and then we have a few squeakers wanting us to include the more than several not so ncaa national titles we have been awarded over the years. there has always been a resounding No. We didn't even think about whining, throwing parades and claiming fake titles in those years where we went perfect and a team with a far lesser schedule was picked

I think you’re pretty easy to wind up on a topic I only care a little about. It was just a joke that you walked right into with “legacy team.” The "
" was a clue that I don't take it seriously and didn't mean for it to be taken seriously.
Virginia benefited from a couple of calls/non-calls at the ends, but TT probably still would have lost and I sure can’t say that the refs benefited Virginia over the entire games that were so close.
That wasn’t a “minor bump”. As GoCubsGo says, it was clearly a foul.
Pac 12 UCLA and SEC KY have won more NCAA Basketball championships than either ACC North Carolina or Duke, and Big 10 Indiana has won as many as Duke.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Divi ... es_by_year
In the last 10 years:
ACC - 4
Big East - 3
American Athletic Conference - 2
SEC - 1
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N ... ship_games
Championships by conference membership at the time of tournaments
Atlantic Coast Conference - 15
Pac-12 Conference - 15
Southeastern Conference - 11
Big Ten Conference - 10
Big East Conference - 8
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N ... ournaments
COULD be a pro-ACC bias, but it’s not overwhelming.

I've always maintained it was a clear foul. But it wasn't the kind usually called in a - let them play - playoff game. On the other hand, a double dribble is a definite rules infraction that is always called.
I bet those acc and pac-12 titles went to more than one team. To me, Kentucky would be just another unchallenged ucf but for the 64 team playoffs in basketball.
I've never understood why they stayed in the sec.
