It's funny that you and O Really (scroll up) both chose this thread. You could have gone with the LEO, Terror, Race, Gun, Immigration, etc. threads. Great minds . . .neoplacebo wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 7:22 amHeh

I've said before that "justice" can be meted out in many ways. The beating won't help this guy's attitude toward people unlike himself, but at least he's learned "free speech isn't free."

I'm still wondering why they weren't all arrested and charged with kidnapping and a bunch of other stacked charges.
And why they sat on the evidence they used to arrest him for over a year.
my wild guess (he's white and he only attacked brown people)

The good news, mostly, just keeps on coming:
Self-styled U.S. citizen border patrol unravels after leader's arrest
Their wives, children and neighbors are really bummed out that the whiny bigoted quitters are coming home.

All you need to know about Republicans...
In March, Gavin Clarkson, a Republican candidate for a New Mexico U.S. Senate seat, appeared in a 30-minute video with UCP members praising their work on the border.
On Saturday he lashed out at them. "Masked militiamen are the antithesis of what a free republic looks like. I absolutely condemn their lawless activities," Clarkson said on Twitter.

I thought this was pretty cool. It's refreshing to not think of cops as a menace these days.

Sounds like he was on-duty. Paid, and beats being shot at or cleaning puke off the back seat. If instead he had returned on his own time . . .neoplacebo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 3:37 pmI thought this was pretty cool. It's refreshing to not think of cops as a menace these days.

I did roto-rooter type work on the weekends while in nursing school. Finished one job in just a few minutes. The elderly couple asked if the steep minimum fee covered an hour

Philando Castile and Justine Damond might disagree with that reputation . . . if they could.

Yeah, my initial thought after reading that story was about Philandro and Eric and Michael and Antwon and all the nameless others. I have to take issue about your comment that the cop was being paid while mowing the lawn instead of doing it on his own time and then you confess to doing the same thing in the basement for the old folks on company time. In sum, I must award you a pressed halibut and a notation of suspicion. You should have killed those people.Vrede too wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 6:35 pmSounds like he was on-duty. "Protect and Serve"
The lawn mowing was in the "serve" part, I suppose.
Anyway, it was a good use of his time, IMNVHO.

Re: Good news/kindness only (please) thread
I was not being paid hourly exactly. If I walked in a door, I got an hour's pay, and no jobs = zero or minimal oncall pay. So, the old folks were going to pay the same whether I left immediately or volunteered the rest of the hour. No basement = studying nursing with the same cash earned. But, I wasn't tying to show up the cop. I would have recalled the story even if it was on company time.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 9:47 pmYeah, my initial thought after reading that story was about Philandro and Eric and Michael and Antwon and all the nameless others. I would rather pay 3 teens to cut lawns for old ladies for the same hourly pay as one cop gets, and see the cop doing real cop stuff. Or, if he mows lawns on his time, then he gets my respect. The Orono taxpayers mowed this lawn, not the cop. Who wouldn't mow a lawn for a cop's pay?
Another aside: When I wasn't taking care of patients I did a lot of cleaning/stocking/organizing rather than sit on my ass. Coworkers would ask if I'd come do their house and I would say, "Sure, for what I'm being paid here." No one ever took me up on it. I would have mowed lawns, too. Beats cleaning up puke.

Re: Good news/kindness only (please) thread
No doubt just about anything beats cleaning up puke. And you are correct in that the taxpayers actually paid for mowing the yard, but the cop was gonna be paid either way, whether he was riding or sitting in a cop car or mowing grass, the labor rate is the same. Actually, two cops were being paid for this if you count the one who took the photo. I used to mow yards in my neighborhood when I was a kid; I got $1.25 for a standard yard and maybe $1.75 for a bigger one. But at that time a new push mower could be bought for about $35 and gas was about 32 cents per gallon. Hey, Larry. Hey, mow.Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:38 amI was not being paid hourly exactly. If I walked in a door, I got an hour's pay, and no jobs = zero or minimal oncall pay.
