Head firmly in the sand isn't always the wisest position concerning college sports - especially when considering a bammer born and breed coach who already has been caught with players using performance enhancing drugs and who has called illegal plays.

Re: College football
Estimated Cost of AttendanceClemson gives Dabo Swinney largest contract in college football history
Rings and trophies are not the only awards for national championships. After leading Clemson to its second College Football Playoff national title in three years, coach Dabo Swinney earned his second contract extension in three years.
The Clemson Board of Trustees Compensation Committee approved a 10-year, $93-million contract for Swinney on Friday morning. Swinney holds the largest contract in college football history, eclipsing the eight-year, $74-million deal Alabama awarded Nick Saban last year and the 10-year, $75-million fully guaranteed deal Texas A&M gave Jimbo Fisher in December 2017....
Swinney will earn $10.25 million in the first year of the contract, including $8.25 million in total salary, $1 million for a split-dollar life insurance premium and a $1-million retention bonus from the previous contract. That figure pushes Swinney ahead of all Division I bowl subdivision coaches for the 2019 season.
Saban will earn $8.7 million next season according to his contract, but he will average $9.44 million through the remaining seven years. Fisher and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh will each earn $7.5 million next season.
Five other coaches, Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Purdue's Jeff Brohm, Florida's Dan Mullen and Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley will earn at least $6 million next season....
In the new contract, Swinney would owe Clemson $4 million if he took another college head coaching job within the first two years of the contract, except for his alma mater Alabama. If Swinney leaves Clemson to replace Saban, his buyout to Clemson jumps to $6 million.
Those amounts decrease to $3 million and $4.5 million for Alabama in 2021 and 2022, $2 million and $4 million from 2023 to 2025 and $1 million and $1.5 million in 2026 and 2027. Saban's current contact expires in 2026.
"Everybody thinks Dabo is going to move on to Alabama," Radakovich said with a smile. "We were going to have a buyout for all other schools, but for that we just put in an additional little kicker."
If Clemson fires Swinney without cause, the school will owe him $50 million in the first two years, $47.5 million in the next two years, $45 million in year five and 100 percent of the remaining compensation in the final five years of the contract....

Getting terminated is what happens when you allow a player to die under your watch. Strange though, Auburn's rival allowed him on their field as an observer.

Re: College football

Now, the national media is busy examining the 2020 crop of potential NFL prospects. Athlon Sports released their top 25 ACC 2020 prospects which included six Tigers with Travis Etienne, Tee Higgins, Nyles Pinckney, Isaiah Simmons, John Simpson, and A.J. Terrell.
Etienne will be one of the most coveted running backs available if he decides to enter next season's NFL draft.
"There's not much else the reigning ACC Player of the Year needs to prove after averaging 8.1 yards per carry and scoring 26 total touchdowns." Athlon Sports said. "As long as Etienne stays healthy there's a strong chance he could go in the first round next April."
Higgins is another Clemson playmaker that could go very high on draft boards.
"Higgins led the Tigers in receptions (59) and touchdown catches (12) last season, earning second-team All-ACC honors in the process," Athlon Sports said. "A big play waiting to happen, Higgins averaged 16 yards per grab and caught a TD pass in each of the two College Football Playoff games this past season. The opportunity to put up big numbers with Trevor Lawrence as his quarterback combined with Clemson's national profile will only help Higgins improve his draft stock."

Clemson lands 5-star running back
Lakeland (Fla.) running back Demarkcus Bowman continued Clemson’s 5-star run with a commitment Friday.
Bowman named Clemson his leader in March while the majority of his projections on 247Sports’ Crystal Ball were to the nearby Florida Gators. He visited for Clemson’s spring game in early April and Tigers assistants returned the favor this week at his school.
His pledge moves Clemson back to the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports Team Composite rankings, jumping LSU and Alabama with 13 commits now. The Tigers now have three 5-star commits, which also leads the nation and all have come in the last month, with Bowman joining cornerback Fred Davis II and defensive end Bryan Bresee.
This gives Clemson seven commits in ESPN's Top 50 and 12 ESPN 300 commits overall in this class.
He is Clemson's highest-rated offensive commit so far, up as far as the No. 16 prospect overall (Rivals) and the No. 2 running back in the country (247Sports).

There really isn't a better way to kick off the weekend than to grab a commitment from one of the nation's top players. As for the rest of the weekend, 5-star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei out of Bellflower CA. will choose between Clemson and Oregon Sunday. https://www.tigernet.com/story/Demarkcu ... mson-17852

Clemson lands Nation's No.1 QB
I like this kid already. Great weekend indeed! https://www.tigernet.com/story/Clemson- ... June-17856"I knew it when I was out there last June." Five-Star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei of Bellflower (CA) John Bosco committed to Clemson Sunday afternoon. Uiagalelei says he loves the fact that the Clemson coaches aren't' afraid to show their religious side. " No, it's been the same feeling that I had in June. For me, the first time I was out there and being able to see college coaches talk about Jesus Christ, that was huge for me" he said. "Seeing that, I knew this was the place I wanted to be. The people here talk about Jesus, and they're being open about it. That was a big thing for me because I had never heard that from a coaching staff or coaches before talk about Jesus Christ and just being open about it and showing their faith. I could just feel the Holy Spirit talking to me and telling me this is the place I need to be."

Paul Finebaum: Clemson has passed Alabama as No. 1 program "I think anyone realistic has to say that Nick Saban should be regarded as the No. 1 coach in the country with six national championships, however I do the think debate is pretty healthy about which program is the best right now,” Finebaum said during Monday's on appearance on WFNZ. “You guys know my resume and where I’ve lived (30 years in Alabama), but I don’t think there’s really a tremendous amount of debate that Clemson, right now, has the best program in America. "It has passed Alabama in terms of appeal, showroom value and upward mobility. A lot of that is because of Saban’s age and a lot of that is because Clemson is a lot more fun to go play at than the University of Alabama.” Dabo Swinney's Tigers humiliated the Crimson Tide in January, handing Alabama its worst loss under Saban and have extreme momentum in other areas, including recruiting and facilities. Clemson's 2020 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 1 per the 247Sports Composite, following Sunday's commitment from five-star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. https://247sports.com/college/clemson/A ... Nation's No. 1 DE commits to Clemson Five-star Powder Springs, Georgia defensive end Myles Murphy announced a commitment to Clemson over Auburn on Friday at his high school's spring game.
He is rated as high as the No. 2 player in the nation and No. 1 DE by ESPN. 247Sports rates Murphy as a five-star prospect and the No. 8 player in the country. He is the No. 2 strong-side defensive end, and the No. 1 prospect from the state of Georgia, also according to 247Sports.
Murphy told TigerNet earlier this month that he loves the fact that Clemson is about more than football. “Really, it's the great environment that they have and the great players that they produce because of the atmosphere and what they teach into the boys - the PAW Journey program,” Murphy said. “After college, they really try to push them into the real world by giving them job opportunities, internships and some of them went out of the country. Some of them went to New York over spring break. That's what I really like to see out of Clemson.”
Murphy's pledge is a fifth 5-star commitment in the last two months, strengthening Clemson's grip on the No. 1 class for 2020.

As with his fellow murdering teammate Hernandez, no playing time was missed - after all, it was a championship year.

I understand that there are many who claim that a schedule doesn’t mean anything, but I don’t get it. The idea of any team capable of putting together a schedule of nobodies gets to rightfully whine and cry incessantly on tv and in print, give themselves silly rings and trophies, throw big parades and claim #1 status doesn’t begin to show the strength of the team.
Clemson only plays 1 top 15 team this year. Still not a cupcake schedule, as they do play some good teams.
UCF, as usual, plays zero top 25 teams. Listen for them to start whining about their poor rankings by October 1.
All so different from the SEC. Not bragging here about Auburn, our schedule is similar to other SEC West teams and way too early for bragging, besides it’s more than doubtful Auburn can get through our schedule of:
2 top 3 teams, 4 top 10 teams and 7 top 15 teams.
All but 1 of these 7 are SEC teams and should illustrate why you can’t compare an SEC team’s non-conference games to non-conference games of most other teams.
Tough games are fun. The SEC will be fun this year.
I can't wait until Saban retires and Daboo trys coaching in the SEC.

Re: College football
If you want to argue that a team that goes 11-0 and beats 5 ranked teams is likely better than a team that goes 11-0 beating Northwest Boondock Teachers College, I'd agree with you. Of course, you can use that argument to say that a team that goes 7-4 against ranked teams is still better than the 11-0 NWBTC bully, but it won't matter because the 7-4 team won't get to the playoffs. I think using a schedule strength to evaluate a team is fine, but it doesn't take the place of a score from a real game. But clearly UCF is inferior to SEC teams and couldn't beat any of them, given its weak schedule, right? Oh, wait.
