2020 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

You forgot to point out that the Texas shooting happened before the Ohio one, but I figure you were all excited about a Democrat making a flub. Nothing wrong with that, but what's fucking ridiculous is that trump makes stupid mistakes or just outright lies on a daily basis and when it's pointed out, the nutjobs start howling and crying.......as if it's normal to be stupid and a pathological liar.

What I find more significant is guys like McCain, Flake, and the six or eight GOP House members that have decided to not seek re election because of trump and his acute ignorance; those guys are standing on principle, even though it took some of them nearly three years to do so.

Not voting Independent in 2020.
Old Joe will be fine once the liberals weed through each others bull$hit.
Won't matter though, whom ever floats to the top will still be $hitty.

They've decided that there's no chance for 45SHOLE to mature enough for them to keep the Senate and the WH, or to win back the House.

I didn't mean to include McCain in that group since he's dead, but he was the only one who stood up to this moron from the start, and he was a Navy guy. Even though I had a lot of opposite views I always respected his integrity and national service. I like guys who got captured and still succeeded.

One could argue that it's the ugly America we've always had, briefly repressed from the 1960s until Nov. 1980 and then barely hidden under the carpet 2009-17.

Polls show top tier 2020 Democrats widening lead over rest of presidential field

... Former Vice President Joe Biden is leading the pack at 32%, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 21% and Sen. Bernie Sanders at 14%, according to a national Quinnipiac Poll published Tuesday.

Warren has made the largest jump up, with 6 percentage points from a July 29 poll ahead of the debate. Sanders also saw a bump of 3 percentage points. Biden slid down by 2 percentage points....

Warren and Sanders shared the debate stage during the first night of the event and often times steered clear of criticizing each other's policies. The two candidates were also targeted by moderate Democratic candidates, such as former Rep. John Delaney and Rep. Tim Ryan, who both advocated for more moderate policies.

... A guess, could just be wishful thinking: Bernie! and Warren's poll numbers increase after last night's attacks from the also-ran moderates.

If Bernie! eventually drops out - most likely of the two at this point - does Warren grab all of his voters and become the front runner?
... No other candidates broke double digits. Fourteen candidates polled at less than 1%.

Sen. Kamala Harris, who made waves following the first primary debate in late June, has slipped by 5 percentage points to 7%. South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is at 5%. Both Sen. Cory Booker and former Rep. Beto O'Rourke are at 2%.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, entrepreneur Andrew Yang and Castro, the former Housing and Development Secretary, are all at 1%....

In a New Hampshire poll also published Tuesday, Biden, Sanders and Warren were again the only candidates to poll in the double digits.

Biden was at 21.4%, followed by Sanders at 16.8% and Warren at 13.6%, according to a Suffolk University/Boston Globe poll.

Harris was at 8%, followed by Buttigieg at 5.8% and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard at 3.2%. The only candidates to break into at least 1% were Booker, Yang, Sen. Michael Bennet and former Rep. John Delaney....
Same question if Warren drops out before Bernie! What's up with Castro? I would have guessed a lock on a few percent just from Latino solidarity. Is he a poor campaigner?

I like Warren and Bernie!, but as a general principle I'm a little sad that it's coming down to 3 old hetero Whites this early.

Would that be a negative to Latinos other than Cuban ex pats? Or too little? Idk. I did wonder if it might be Cuban heritage, but both parents have Mexican heritage, with dad's family being Tejano since at least 1920. Mom is a helluvan activist.

Yeah, I had the pleasure of meeting her while doing grunt work for La Raza back in the day. Could be considered AOC v.1, but she asked and gave no quarter.

I can remember reading about La Raza in Rolling Stone magazine back in the late sixties and early seventies. I specifically remember a story about a guy named Salazar (Ruben?) that was supposedly murdered by the LA County Sheriff department while he was sitting in a bar. In any case, I belatedly applaud your efforts on their behalf.

Showing momentum, Warren gains on frontrunner Biden

... The progressive female senator, whose campaign has only gained momentum since April, came in at 20 percent support, nipping at the heels of former vice president Biden at 23 percent, according to the latest national Economist/YouGov poll of registered voters.

The latest result brings Warren's standing in the RealClearPolitics average of recent polls to 18.5 percent, with Sanders, an independent senator from Vermont, one point back.

Biden leads with 30.3 percent, according to the average....
Wow, if the Economist/YouGov poll is accurate Warren is proving that intelligence, ideas and policy still matter, at least among Dems.

Here is the GOOD news: We are at 2.5 million contributions for the campaign. FAR more than any other campaign. By a lot. We didn’t reach that number until Iowa in the last campaign. Amazing.

Here is the LESS good news: In the last campaign, our average contribution was $27. On this campaign, it’s $19. And in this last quarter, it’s closer to $16....
I'm close to donating to Warren. Maybe after the next debate, if the also-rans stay in the single digits and/or if Bernie! falls further behind her.

Not that you can rely on headlines - or even article content, but this one is funny ...

"Fox News poll shows Trump losing to any warm body"

"As long as he's only up against one candidate and they don't do anything stupid, Trump would lose to a sausage in 2020. Fox News has him deep underwater against every likely Dem candidate."

Probably true; hell, I'd vote for Son of Sam before I'd vote for trump.

I hope that Dems vote for the "warm body" that they think will make the best POTUS, whoever that is, not settle for who they think is most likely to win, which we've seen can be erroneous.

I can't really agree or disagree with most of it, but one passage stood out to me as glaring:
Interestingly, though, more Sanders supporters back Biden as their second choice than they do Warren. This may reflect Sanders' populist appeal to working-class voters rather than interest in his programs.
A female pundit should be able to come up with an alternate explanation.
