FBI: California gunman had list of possible targets

The FBI has opened a domestic terrorism investigation into the mass shooting at a California food festival after it discovered a "target list" compiled by the gunman whose relatives apologized Tuesday and said they were "horrified" by his actions.

The FBI disclosure came during a funeral mass for Keyla Salazar, a 13-year-old middle schooler who was one of three people killed on July 28 by gunman Santino William Legan during the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Thirteen others were injured....

On the day of the attack, Legan urged his Instagram followers to read a 19th century book popular with white supremacists who follow extremist websites. He also complained about overcrowding towns and paving open space to make room for "hordes" of Latinos and Silicon Valley whites....

Maybe so, but depending on how old you are and where you are, it's easier to get an AR-15 than it is a van. And It takes a lot longer to kill 20 people with a van. But hey - I'd be happy if AR-15s purchase, ownership, use and licensing is the same as a van.

I love it when they mention car crash deaths, which are close to the same as for guns. I say, "I agree with you that guns and gun owners should be regulated to the extent that cars and drivers are."

The article doesn't say, but often that would mean that he's still on probation and that the 10 years could be reimposed if he's convicted of the new crime.

State Department confirms alleged leader of white-nationalist group is an employee, won't say if he'll be fired

A current State Department official served as the leader of a white-nationalist organization in Washington, DC, according to a report from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) released on Wednesday.

The official, identified as Matthew Gebert, "hosted white nationalists at his home and published white nationalist propaganda online," the report said.

A State Department spokesperson on Wednesday told INSIDER that Gebert is a foreign-affairs officer assigned to the Bureau of Energy Resources in Washington, DC.

When asked whether the allegations in the SPLC report would affect Gebert's employment status, the department spokesperson told INSIDER, "The Department of State cannot comment on personnel issues but is committed to providing an inclusive workplace."

Gebert was placed on leave as of Thursday, according to a Politico report....

Most of the time it's pretty good; sometimes it's better than that. I have no valid medical reason for getting marijuana but I recommend it for anyone who wants to relax now and then, maintain a good appetite, and get plenty of rest. I would never lie and say I had a medical reason to use pot; I use it for the past 50 years just because I like it.
