Anyone have an opinion about the vaccine EO by DeSantis

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

It's interesting that Trump tried desperately to get full credit for the vaccine, but it's mainly Trumpists that "don't trust it." They must think Trump created the vaccine only to cause harm to Democrats. Ironically, they could still support Trump and the vaccine too - which would be in their best interest - but choose yet again to act against their own interests. Idiots.**

I rarely agree with him and maybe it's just my bias - 70 and very immune comprised, but as much as I don't like the man, I think he got this right. At least for a retirement state like Florida....

As Florida’s coronavirus vaccine distribution rolled out, white, well-off communities disproportionately received better access to the shots.

These Florida concert tickets are $18 if you're vaccinated, $1,000 if you're not
The promoter behind the discount hopes it encourages people to get their shot.

... The concert is set to take place on June 26 at the VFW Post 39 venue in St. Petersburg. It will feature performances from three punk rock banks: Teenage Bottlerocket, MakeWar and Rutterkin.

Some 250 discounted tickets for vaccinated patrons for are sale, compared to just four thousand-dollar tickets. So far, Williams said no one has bought any of the $1,000 tickets....

The Vaccine Had to Be Used. He Used It. He Was Fired.

The Texas doctor had six hours. Now that a vial of COVID-19 vaccine had been opened on this late December night, he had to find 10 eligible people for its remaining doses before the precious medicine expired. In six hours.

Scrambling, the doctor made house calls and directed people to his home outside Houston. Some were acquaintances; others, strangers. A bed-bound nonagenarian. A woman in her 80s with dementia. A mother with a child who uses a ventilator.

After midnight, and with just minutes before the vaccine became unusable, the doctor, Hasan Gokal, gave the last dose to his wife, who has a pulmonary disease that leaves her short of breath.

For his actions, Gokal was fired from his government job and then charged with stealing 10 vaccine doses worth a total of $135 — a shun-worthy misdemeanor that sent his name and mug shot rocketing around the globe....
 :obscene-birdiered: to Harris County, Texas.
No indictment for doctor accused of COVID-19 vaccine theft

A grand jury on Wednesday declined to indict a former Houston-area health department doctor who was accused of stealing nine doses of coronavirus vaccine from a damaged vial and administering them to family and friends.
:happy-cheerleaderkid:
... In an interview with The Associated Press, Gokal, 48, said when he was confronted with the possibility that a life saving vaccine could be lost, he made the decision to find eligible people late at night who could be given the expiring doses.

“I came as a practicing ER doctor into public health and as an ER doctor, I err on the side of life and that’s how I chose to make my decision," he said. “It was the right thing to do and it meant saving more lives."

Paul Doyle, Gokal’s attorney, criticized the decision by prosecutors to pursue charges, saying Gokal's supervisor had approved his plan for the leftover vaccine doses.

“There is no other case that I know of in the country where a doctor went above and beyond and was persecuted for it," Doyle said.

Doyle said hundreds of medical professionals and others had written letters, sent emails and made phone calls in support of Gokal's actions....

In January, prosecutors filed a misdemeanor theft charge against Gokal, who was fired after the health department conducted an internal investigation.
:obscene-birdiered: :obscene-birdiered:
A judge later dismissed the theft charge, ruling there was no probable cause in the case. Harris County Court-At-Law Judge Franklin Bynum criticized prosecutors, saying their probable cause complaint was “riddled with sloppiness and errors.”
:happy-cheerleaderkid:
After the dismissal, prosecutors presented the case to the grand jury.
:obscene-birdiered:
While he felt relief and happiness after learning about the grand jury’s decision, Gokal said the ordeal has taken a toll on his family, as his wife's health has been impacted and his children's grades suffered.
:(
Gokal said he would still like to work in some capacity in public health but worries the theft accusation has put this in danger. Since he was fired by the county health department, he has worked part time in the emergency departments at two Houston hospitals.

“For the time being, I’m not going hungry and my family is doing OK," he said.

Gokal said he and his family, including his two daughters and son, have been grateful for the outpouring of support they have received.

“So many people reached out, helped in different ways, from GoFundMe (donations) to prayers and messages. I’ve been so overwhelmed by that," he said.

In March, the Texas Medical Board dismissed an investigation against Gokal, saying he “appeared to have administered doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to patients that were properly consented, in the eligible patient category, and they were given doses that would have otherwise been wasted.”

The board also found there were no protocols for Gokal to follow and he relied on state guidance to not waste the vaccine....

Judge sides with Indiana University in student challenge to COVID-19 vaccine mandate

A federal judge sided with the university in an opinion issued early Monday morning after eight students challenged the public university's requirement that all students and employees receive a COVID-19 vaccine before the start of the fall semester.

Indiana University's policy, announced this spring, will require all students, faculty and staff in the fall semester to be fully vaccinated either by Aug. 15 or when returning to campus after Aug. 1, whichever is earlier.

The university will recognize certain medical and religious exemptions to its requirement, but IU officials say unvaccinated students will need to continue following some coronavirus mitigation strategies the university is easing for other students who are fully vaccinated.

The students' lawyer, James Bopp Jr., argued in court last week that the vaccine requirement violates students' rights to bodily integrity, informed choice of medical treatment and religious freedom, essentially forcing them to choose between getting vaccinated and continuing their education at IU. Their attorney is now preparing an appeal.
 :crybaby:
In an expedited case, the students asked U.S. District Court Judge Damon Leichty to grant a preliminary injunction blocking the university from requiring the vaccine before the start of the fall semester.

After review of more than a hundred submitted exhibits and three hours of argument, Leichty denied the students' "extraordinary remedy of a preliminary injunction, before a trial on the merits."

Leichty wrote in a 100-page opinion that the students did not show they would suffer irreparable harm under the vaccine requirement and that that university has acted reasonably in the interest of its students' and employees' public health.

"The university is presenting the students with a difficult choice — get the vaccine or else apply for an exemption or deferral, transfer to a different school, or forego schools for the semester altogether," Leichty wrote. "But, this hard choice doesn't amount to coercion." ...

I believe trump's mini-me was handed a defeat yesterday for his requirement that cruise ships allow unvaccinated passengers to board

Can you guess the dissenter

"The 11th Circuit ruling was issued by Judge Charles Wilson, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, Judge Jill Pryor, an appointee of President Barack Obama, and Judge Elizabeth Branch, an appointee of President Donald Trump. The court did not specify the dissenting judge."

Ain't it a shame that our courts have turned into mini elections.

Here comes the stick:
Biden mandates vaccinations for federal employees, contractors; encourages $100 payments for Americans

President Biden announced in a speech Thursday that all federal employees and contractors are now required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or face regular testing before returning to in-person work, and he also encouraged states and localities to pay $100 to each newly vaccinated American....

The federal government employs nearly 2 million people in its civilian workforce. This mandate does not yet extend to members of the military, though Biden has directed the Department of Defense to see how requirements and mitigation efforts can be safely met within all the service branches.

Federal employees and contractors who are unable to attest to their vaccination status will undergo regular coronavirus testing, will be required to wear a mask and will likely be unable to travel, Biden said....
The travel restriction will really mess with some. Good. Not mentioned in the article - the swab size used for testing will increase each week.

Well, back in December covid vaccine was being rationed.

I couldn't get fully vaccinated until the end of February.

Today, AFAIK, there is a surplus, enough to get every American fully vaccinated.

Hell, they'll pay people $100 to get a jab.

But realistically, what we really need is for everyone on the planet to get vaccinated against Covid. Or at least a very large percentage. Without that, we probably can expect new more lethal and more resistant variants to keep popping up.

Somewhere today (could have been here) I read about concert tickets at 18/ticket if vaccinated and 999.99/ticket if not.
One way to avoid the DeSantis insantis.

After the Repug party the community center toilets were grossly desantised and had to be scoured again.

Voted out? He will be leaving, but only because he'll be the next president. Then, he's yours too.
