Cam should have gotten vaxxed. He'd still have a job.
The NFL is brutal.

That being said, Cam hasn't looked right in a couple of years.
No, but up until he had his covid "misunderstanding issue" he was proclaimed solidly by Belichick to be the starter - and no matter what still on the team. "Personal choice" can be expensive.
Or Belichick is a lying asshole. Both can be true.

Well, there's that. But if you consider that Cam was OK, but not wonderful last year, and was OK, but not wonderful pre-season and then during an important week before reg season starts he screws up a covid protocol that wouldn't even have applied to him if he'd had his shot, I'd say that's fair grounds for an NFL player to lose his job particularly when there's some up and coming stud pushing for the job anyway. Belichick isn't much of a drama fan.

Guess old Carson is a deep thinker🙄. Seems like between his off time from surgery recovery and on the covid list he had some extra time on his hands. He certainly hasn't been practicing football or anything.

Thank God he's Indy's problem.

"Weighing every pro and con"...

Hmmm, pro: get to keep my multi-million dollar job and get an opportunity to continue playing in the NFL. Don't have to put up with constant testing and nagging from the wife to "go get the effin' shot." Don't get sick with the virus.

Con: might feel slightly under the weather for a day.

Oh woe. Such difficult decisions.
These guys over-value themselves way too much.

It's actually more than that from a team standpoint, especially a "team leader" (which I'm gathering Carson is not. He was apparently an arrogant asshole in Philly and they were glad to be rid of him). He can't eat with the team, he has to be masked in the facility, he can't go out to dinner on the road....there's more I'm sure.

His tenure in Indy is going to be short.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Report: Patriots release Cam Newton, name Mac Jones as starting QB

Now I can hate the Pats without reservation again.

Belichick is a world class asshole, but he was right to dump Cam.
From the article:
Newton, like all unvaccinated players, was tested every day. Including game day. So if Belichick had made Cam the starter, Belichick would have had to worry about Newton testing positive the day of a game, any game. Like the game to be played in four weeks and one day against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.

Newton also had constant susceptibility to a five-day absence for having close contact with an infected person. Vaccinated players do not face such consequences this year. Also, and as the Patriots learned two weeks ago, Cam didn’t understand the very basic and simple requirement that a player must be tested every day at the team facility, which resulted in a five-day break and gave Mac Jones the chance to persuade Belichick that, all things being equal, it was better to entrust the starting job to the quarterback who could be trusted to be available for every game.

Yeah, I fault his other comments, not for dumping anti-vax Cam a bit.

Cam's still got some play left, if he gets vaccinated, but he's not cut out to start fading gradually as a mentoring back-up. So he'll probably leave a few years on the table if he can't start.

If there's any truth to this then my only surprise is that Belichick kept him as long as he did.

According to former Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich, rookie quarterback Mac Jones had to help Newton learn the team’s playbook.

“I got some inside sources now, and I won’t say names, but from what I gained from sources inside the actual building… Mac was basically helping Cam learn the playbook,” Ninkovich said. “Mac was having less mental errors and a better understanding of the offense.”

With relatively little fanfare, at least compared to the ragtag group formerly known as "Redskins" and the "Indians" from Cleveland, The Edmonton Eskimos have become the Edmonton Elks. At least it keeps them from having to change their helmet logo.

Pretty cool Elk, too.

I wondered about that. I looked at a couple of dictionaries - the usual but not exclusive plural is 'elk'.

Sure, but the usual plural of "leaf" is "leaves", too, unless you play for Toronto.
I like "Elks", and besides, you can't necessarily expect north Alberta hockey fans to quibble over grammar.

I'm not complaining. I looked it up and found that “Elks” is proper, just less common, and it sounds like the owners consulted with grammar experts. Maybe they think that “Elks” is more dynamic or that north Albertans would get "Elk" wrong, anyhow, Idk.

And of course there's the precedent of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Anyway, they're working on erasing any reference to "Eskimo" anywhere. I'm afraid they're going to do what some other sports have done and apply the current name to the past. Like somebody saying "Warren Moon played for the Elks before playing in the NFL" No, he didn't. He played for the Eskimos.

Naa, me either. Seems pointless at best; confusing enough to cost a game at worst.
