Debate Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

1. Obama falsely claimed that Romney said “we should ask Pakistan for permission” prior to going there to kill someone. What Romney said was, “keep our options quiet.”

2. Obama accused Romney of lying when Romney said “you and I agreed” that some US troops should be left in Iraq. Obama failed to negotiate keeping 3,000 to 4,000 support troops there; Romney said he would have left 10,000 to 30,000.

3. Obama said military unemployment is lower than for the general population. Not true of veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.

4. Obama claimed the record would back him up when he accused Romney of opposing any federal “help” or “assistance” for troubled automakers. In fact, the record shows Romney supported federal loan guarantees.

5. Obama wrongly claimed Romney called Russia the “biggest geopolitical threat facing America.” Actually, Romney called Russia a “foe” and not a “threat.” He said “the greatest threat that the world faces is a nuclear Iran.”

Military horses are also used in the "Old Guard" or Caisson Platton.

An interesting bit of trivia: When I was stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the late 70's, I was contacted by the base veterinarian about treating one of the caisson horses who happened to be one of the team pulling Kennedy's casket. The horse had an inoperable squamous cell carcinoma of the lower left eyelid. (I since found out that this is not uncommon among horses). We treated him with brachytherapy (radioactive seed implant) and he did well, with resolution of his tumor. I think he died sometime in the late 80's of old age and arthritis.

For number 2 in the liars list of lies, if I recall correctly, the issue surrounding leaving any American forces in Iraq hinged on the insistence of the Iraqis that any such forces be under the jurisdiction of Iraqi law. We did not agree to that, so no forces were left. Did Romney want to leave our soldiers to the good graces of the newly born justice system of Iraq? Really?

Appears the comments from this forum about the debate tracks along party lines with cynicism from the usual players.

Nice to see O'Really doesn't care what either candidate has to say. It's the bump in the polls that he's interested in; you know those polls that draw a true representation of US citizen opinion. If I was to poll my neighbors Romney won hands down. Likewise all of my neighbors intend to vote for Romney, some already have. So my poll has 100% of the vote for Romney. Sorry O'Really, no bump for Obama from this locale.

OBAMA: You did not say that you would provide government help.
What Romney said.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/19/opini ... html?_r=2&
The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk.

On this one he even caught his own W-H off guard. With in minutes they were saying Obama DIDN'T SAY WHAT HE JUST DID. Please explain this one? His own people were lying within minutes.

It's useless to go on about ALL OBAMA'S lies here because the libs will explode with anger and start lying and denying, then the name calling starts because they have nothing else. :?

Romney has no clue what he would do if faced with ANY foreign policy situation. You could see that last night if you didn't already know it. All he know about foreign policy is what his debate coach told him to say. He sounded like a political ad all night.

Don't take our word for it. Go on any FastCheck site. They all say that the auto industry would have gone out of business if they had followed Romney's plan to "restructure" them.

No he didn't.

"Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets..."

You win the prize for first lies about this debate. Congrats!
You missed his repeated Freeper delusion about the "murder" of a "gay" ambassador.

Does anyone here realize that Tertius believes that Obama purposely set Ambassador Stevens up to be killed because Obama didn't want his and Stevens' gay activities in Chicago to come out?

Even Defective Colon and Butt Ugly aren't that unhinged.
I did not say Obama set Stevens up to cover up Obama's gay activities in Chicago. You just did.

I said Obama set gay Ambassador up to cover up the administration's arming of Islamic Terrorist. I may have went on to say that by setting up a gay ambassador rather than a normal person Obama diverted attention away from the accusations.

Clearly Romney was in command of the facts last night. Obama had many sharp counters but few were factual or constructive.

Obama had a perfect audience to explain himself on Libya but brushed off the subject like the men who were murdered were nothing. This can only be explained by the fact that he cannot defend his actions. Obama could have looked at the camera and explained himself but did not.

We have expanding sea trade, terrorism, piracy, a growing Chinese navy, increases in Russian navy technology, and drug traffic at sea. Obama says we can handle these problems with less. If so explain to the American people how. Rather Obams gave the American people a sarcastic answer.

Obama was never Presidential material. Last night Obama proved he is still not and has learned nothing in four years.

ROMNEY: Said that when he was Massachusetts governor, high-school students who graduated in the top quarter "got a four-year, tuition-free ride at any Massachusetts public institution of higher learning."

OBAMA: "That happened before you came into office.
" Wha Wha I'm right, where's the help from the moderator Wha Wha Help Help Help.

ROMNEY: "That was actually mine, actually, Mr. President. You got that fact wrong."

THE FACTS: Romney was right. The John and Abigail Adams scholarship program began in 2004 when he was governor.

The "debates" are simply another form of advertising. A show no more real than Jane Fonda's army helmet. Do you really think everyone is affected by the debate? Or that the vast majority of people haven't already made up their mind? It's all about the close areas, which undoubtedly isn't your neighborhood. Mine either, for that matter, although I don't have the Republican infestation that you apparently have.

Colonel Taylor takes the prize, though. He quoted (#4) the same exact Fact Check, but deliberately neglected to link it or mention all the other points. What a lying baby!

The problem is that no one was watching and those who watched were bored to tears.

The debate was really a bust for the voters.

As are these.... .

Romney was wrong when he repeated a claim that our “Navy is smaller now than any time since 1917.” Actually, there are slightly more ships active now than at the low point under President George W. Bush.

Romney repeated his claim that the president undertook “an apology tour … criticizing America” after Obama became president. Obama called that “probably the biggest whopper that’s been told” during the entire campaign. And in fact, our own analysis, and that of other fact-checkers, found no “apology” in the president’s speeches.

Romney claimed credit for top scores by Massachusetts grade-schoolers while he was governor. But they tested at the top, or near it, before Romney took office.

Romney said the federal debt to “other people” is $16 trillion, which isn’t correct. The debt owed to the public is $11 trillion, and the figure he gave includes money the government owes to itself.

Romney claimed terrorism wasn’t mentioned in any presidential debate in 2000. Actually, Al Gore made one brief mention.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
I suppose viewing the debate through the eyes of a hypocrite as you do caused you to overlook those Romney lies.. or perhaps you're so accustomed to Mitt lying that they didn't register..
