Wingnutties out of control!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

nafta was the cons start to their new world order (so described by papa bush) that has led to the dissemination of industry and worker’s rights in this and other advanced countries and has led to the exploitation of impoverished people all over the world – and done more than any other single factor to widen the gap between the rich and the working class
by any other name nafta or caftan of afta or safta – just another way to get around labor and environment laws and make big business bigger

the US goods trade deficit with NAFTA was $94.6 billion in 2010, a 36.4% increase ($25 billion) over 2009.
The US goods trade deficit with NAFTA accounted for 26.8% of the overall U.S. goods trade deficit in 2010.

The auto industry sprung up in the south (before nafta) as a result of US law requiring a portion of the cars to be produced here to avoid tariffs

Seriously? "New World Order?"

That vision of American Supremacy - there have been plenty of other "New World Order" visions over the centuries, all with different and usually conflicting goals - was nothing new. It didn't start with NAFTA, and it didn't end there.

It's just NAFTA. Just The US, Canada and Mexico.
billy.pilgrim wrote:just another way to get around labor and environment laws and make big business bigger
Except that Canada's labor and environment laws are pretty much the same as America's both before and since NAFTA. As for Mexico, the side-deals to NAFTA mandated *better* labor and environment laws there.

Trade goods, not manufactured goods. There's an important difference:

The trade goods that Canada sells the US includes a whole lot of oil, hydro electricity, plus raw materials from aluminum to lumber. This gives the US a trade deficit with Canada on trade goods.

But that cheap energy and raw materials creates jobs in the US. When you look at manufacturing - the jobs you're so concerned with - it's Canada that has the 600,000 high-paying manufacturing job trade deficit.

Likewise, Mexico is selling the US vast amounts of oil and raw materials, that are not costing American jobs.

With auto manufacturing now in Mexico, Mexico could just as easily put similar tariffs on cars from the US.

And yes, there were plenty of protectionist American laws before NAFTA. My favorite was the one that declared that removed Kentucky (or was it Kansas?) from North America. The US slapped a huge tariff on Canadian-made Toyota cars because the transmissions - made in Kentucky or Kansas - "weren't made in North America."

The auto industry sprung up in the US south largely *since* NAFTA. It disappeared from Detroit *before* NAFTA.

the big 3 honda, nissan and toyota were here long before nafta

I also hear (tiny squeaks on the news) that the new pacific trade agreement is being written by 600 large corporations but is too secret for the public to see - until after it signed sealed and delivered

But I too love all this free trade – who would want to have chickens raised and slaughtered in Arkansas shipped to china for processing before being returned to the US consumer

Signed initially by George H. W. Bush, it was supported bi-partisanly and opposed bi-partisianly. Nice try at Partisan62ship though.

The original Canada-U.S. free trade agreement was signed by Reagan. NAFTA was an expansion of this agreement that added Mexico, and was signed by Bush I in 1992. Since the agreement had been signed by Bush I under his fast-track prerogative, Clinton did not alter the original agreement. The U.S. House passed it with considerably more Republican than Democrat support.

All Clinton was really responsible for was a couple add-on agreements to raise Mexican worker and environmental standards, to try to level the playing field for American workers.

And it's created more jobs in America than it took away.

I guess that giant sucking sound that Ross Perot warned us about was just some of his money being sucked away. Is that guy still alive?

The final agreement was effectie 1/1/1994. I choose not to engage in a pissing contest with people who won't accept reality. Anyway, it has been a net positive for the US from an export standpoint. Too bad it eliminated some overpriced union jobs.

kinda like the new health care law becomes effectie in 2014; therefore, it must have been passed by a republicon congress.

and we all know that the panama canal was finally turned over to panama by pappy bush

geez - I startn to get the hang of this republicon anti-cause and effectie thing

Card's Mormon; his thinking is skewed. I still love his books, a least when he can keep the creepy religious shit out of them.

No Debate For You!!!
The GOP’s governing body approved a resolution on Friday barring NBC News and CNN from partnering with the Republican National Committee in hosting 2016 presidential primary debates.
Oh, no. Whatever will we do? Gloom, despair and agony on me . . . .

Yeah, I heard about this. Real smart.....they need to seek out more people, not restrict access to their misguided message. I think it's great. I also think that dumbass Preibus looks like Pee Wee Herman. Heh! Hell, I bet he even has a fancy bicycle like Pee Wee had. Heh!

It is the sort of step-on-your-dick move the TEAKKKOP has become adept at. They are likely expecting CNN and NBC to cave and come begging to be let back in.

Wow. We were wondering after the 2012 election whether the Republicans would let the adults back into the party for 2016, or whether they'd go full Nugent. I never expected an answer this soon.

And there are three more summers left in the extended Silly Season. Who knows what sort of ever-stupider shit they'll come up with? I'm guessing that when CNN and NBC don't come begging at the door, there'll be come batshit new conspiracy fairy tale about Obama engineering the whole thing with the IRS.

Guy orders a gun safe. Finds it full of pot.
http://now.msn.com/pot-in-gun-safe-surp ... rchased-it
You do realize that if they applied the same stupid "no tolerance" policy here that is used in schools, the guy would be arrested immediately for possession - nevermind that it wasn't his fault, nor could he have prevented it.
