Those bells are the only thing keeping me from listening to that song on repeat at times. Or maybe the harshness of the bells was purposely done to contrast with the smoothness of the song.Vrede too wrote:Only old people thought that back in 1973.

Singer Randy Howard Killed in Gunfight With Bounty Hunter
Howard was a member of country music’s “Outlaw” movement, which rejected Nashville’s polished music in favor of a rougher sound. Howard shared the stage with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Jr.
"He embraced the term “redneck.”
"In an interview with the AP in 1983, he said redneck — a derogatory term for poor, white rural Southerners — doesn’t have to be offensive.
“It can be positive,” he said. “When I play clubs, I ask if there are any rednecks out there. I get a good response whether I’m in New York or Miami.”

Jim Ed Brown died last week too. Really enjoyed his singing with Helen Cornelius.

Helen was a looker back then; not too shabby now. First time I ever saw them as a duo was many years ago in Greenville; they were the lead-off set for Marty Robbins ... what a show that night!Seth Milner wrote:"Jim Ed Brown died last week too. Really enjoyed his singing with Helen Cornelius.

This stuff they have today in the guise of country music is the pits.

The cacophonous bells are integral to the song!
How many mornings are we jarred awake by our alarm clocks. We groan, and might even, like Charlie Brown, sigh, "Time to cringe from another day." Each time that alarm sounds, we are one day closer to death.
Back in my twenties, this album was gettin' high music. Now that I've passed 60, ten years have got behind me and every year is getting shorter ... well, I bow to young lads who put that feeling into song when they were young and life was long.

I like to listen to this album when I'm laying in bed with the lights out, so right when time comes on I'm usually in the zone and the bells pull me out of it sometimes.

I've never seen Pink Floyd live (a major life regret), but I've been to some really fantastic laser shows. In context, the bells work. But if I was making drifting off music, I'd probably edit it out of the playlist.

When I fly overseas, this is my drifting off music. It's a ritual- wine, dinner ( such as it is), more wine. The cabin lights dim, and off I go. Dark Side of the Moon will always be one of my favorite headphone albums. Stoned or not.
