Might not hurt much since it's vs an FBS team, but that's a huge margin.

The narrow loss to an FBS team won't hurt NDSU :( . Montana will stay #2.
FCS Coaches Poll

1 North Dakota State (21) 2-1
2 Montana (5) 3-0
3 South Dakota State 2-1
4 Montana State 2-1

"PIKEVILLE, Ky.--Lee Kirkland and the Pikeville Bears hang 47 points and 662 offensive yards to outduel the Phoenix, 47-24.

Cumberland (2-1, 0-1 MSC) put up 37 for their most in a game on the season, but could not slow down the Pikeville offense allowing big plays to suffer their first loss of the season.

The Phoenix will take on No. 10 Georgetown next Saturday at home. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. central time. "

I don't see the article mentioning 1916. Why is this NAIA game important to you? Is it just that there's a score typo in the first sentence? It was 47-37.

Beats me. Maybe there was a real fire there? Maybe that's how the team got its name? Aha:

"The Civil War nearly destroyed Cumberland University. University Hall was burned to the ground by Confederate forces under the command of General Joseph Wheeler. Cumberland alumni William E. Ward wrote on a ruined Corinthian column the Latin phrase Ex Cineribus Resurgam (From the ashes I will arise). The university thereafter adopted the mythical phoenix bird as its symbol. By 1866, just one year after the war's end, all departments were again operating in various locations in the town of Lebanon."

Holy shit, horror of horrors, UNC QB says people go to NC State who can't get into Carolina! And has to apologize for it. Apologize? Puh-leeze. Nevermind if it's true, and there's an argument that it is, that's been a common tease since before I was there back when dinosaurs roamed Franklin Street. NC State was also referred to as "cow college" and "moo U" in reference to its excellent agricultural programs.

Sure, maybe a public press conference isn't the best place to trash talk, but c'mon, that's ridiculous.

1916 was a bad year for the school where my Dad attended (much later) and where he later served as vp and president.

Ah, no wonder you're proud of "rising" to a 10-point loss. :P
Otoh:
... The pinnacle of the early days of CU football was the 1903 season that began with a (6–0) win over Vanderbilt then a (0–6) loss to Sewanee and continued with a five-day road trip with victories over Alabama (44–0) November 14, 1903, LSU (41–0) November 16, 1903, and Tulane (28–0) November 18, 1903. Cumberland played a postseason game against Coach John Heisman's Clemson team on Thanksgiving Day that ended in an 11–11 tie and a record of 4–1–1. This gave Coach A.L. Phillips and Cumberland University the Championship of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Has Auburn ever stomped Alabama and LSU and tied Clemson in a season?

Never like this Alabama (44–0) and LSU (41–0)
Give credit, the 10 point loss was their first loss of the season.

Cumberland beat Heisman's GT baseball team that year 22 to 0. Some say the football score was to make a point.

Interestingly, there were no 1st downs by either team in the 222 to 0 game.

Normally I would be rooting for a 2nd stringer like Ashford to shine on his first start. On few very few occasions he has played, he has looked to be the better qb, especially on broken plays, but I'm conflicted about Saturday. Another 3 or 4 interceptions and lost yardage on every broken play by Findley and a 4th quarter save by Ashford on Saturday could have been the end of coach blufield.

Instead, if the kid I like (and our only alternative to Findley) does great on Saturday, it could prolong harsin's days.

Oh well, at least Finley won't be throwing interceptions Saturday.

Utah student arrested for allegedly making nuclear bomb threat if football team lost

A student at the University of Utah was arrested Wednesday after police said she allegedly threatened to detonate a nuclear reactor on campus if the football team lost to San Diego State this past weekend....
 I always thought that it was a mistake to get girls interested in football.
... The student wasn't bluffing about the presence of a reactor — one has been housed in the university's engineering building since 1972. However, the reactor is very small compared to others around the world. It's only about the size of a microwave oven, according to a 2011 article from the Deseret News. It also only generates enough power to heat the thousands of gallons of water its immersed in, according to Utah professor Gary Sandquist.

"There's absolutely no risk," Sandquist said in 2011. "It would probably be a greater risk that we'd have a tsunami from the West Coast that would reach Salt Lake before the reactor would cause any problems."

You've already written Blufield's epitaph? How long is his contract for and can Auburn afford serial buyouts?

I don't mind it as much when they've got the talent to back it up, and Sanders has the honors and rings to prove the talent. I haven't followed his post-play career closely. He hasn't pissed me off as an analyst, but that's the most I can say about that or coaching.

The guy's an idiot. We've been shedding coaches and players since the day he started.

Last year
"In December, Harsin hired Davis away from the Seattle Seahawks, where he served as quarterbacks coach, to replace SEC coaching veteran Mike Bobo, who was fired in November after only one season leading the Tigers' offense, which regressed the latter half of the season.

Davis said he was stepping away from football for personal reasons."

Sure thing

"Auburn will now conduct a "national search" for the Tigers' third offensive coordinator under Harsin."

Except we couldn't find anyone willing to accept at Auburn with harsin and he promoted from within.

"Defensive coordinator Derek Mason, who led the Tigers' defense to a respectable enough showing in 2021, including a stellar effort against Alabama, stepped down from his position after just one season, making a lateral move to Oklahoma State, where he will serve in the same position for the Cowboys."
Note - a lateral move at less money

"That prompted the continuing mass exodus of Auburn defensive linemen, eight of whom have entered the transfer portal this offseason, including former five-star prospect Lee Hunter and J.J. Pegues, who made the move from offense to defense last year and had the potential to become a star along the line."

"The turmoil for Harsin's staff didn't even wait until the offseason to begin, though, as the first-year head coach dismissed wide receivers coach Cornelius Williams four games into the season."

Plus our AD was recently fired.
