Re: In Memoriam
80 years ago, almost to the minute, the attack on Pearl Harbor was concluding. History, for America, is divided into before and after.

Yes, it did seem to change the nation from a somewhat insular go-it-alone character to more of a sometimes aggressive world power. And we never again felt so safe and secure, even though the initial attack was about 2300 miles from mainland America.

The funny thing is that whiny pretend butthurt Useless has exactly the same memories of Bob Dole that we have:
KS Senator, Majority Leader
Failed VP and POTUS (multiple times) candidate
Husband to Liddy, Red Cross chief and carpetbagging NC Senator
Viagra
That's it. Without looking it up Useless could not name a single legislative achievement or even what military branch Dole served in. Fine, but I have no idea why Useless is so disrespectful of Bob as to object to our fond recollection of something that Dole chose to do and be remembered for. Shame.Translation: Waaa. Am not, you are, waaa!
An event planner for Bob Dole's funeral was dismissed over accusations of involvement in the Capitol riot
Opps.
To Bob Dole's eternal shame:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Dole# ... cal_career
Good riddance, Trumpette.... Dole endorsed Donald Trump after the latter clinched the Republican nomination, while all other then-living Republican presidential nominees, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney refused to do so, and became the lone former nominee to attend the 2016 Republican National Convention....
Former Dole advisers, including Paul Manafort, played a major role in Trump's presidential campaign. Following Trump's electoral victory, Dole coordinated with the Trump campaign and presidential transition team to set up a series of meetings between Trump's staff and Taiwanese officials as well as assisting in successful efforts to include favorable language towards Taiwan in the 2016 Republican Party platform....
Dole expressed concern the Commission on Presidential Debates were biased against President Trump and his reelection campaign in a public statement on October 9, 2020, saying how he knew all the Republicans on the commission and feared that "none of them support[ed]" the president.
... Dole endorsed Trump in both 2016 and 2020 ...

Michael Nesmith, guitar player and vocalist for The Monkees dies. I remember watching their tv show when I was a tween. They had a grotesquely modified GTO convertible they tooled around in. His mom is the one who invented "White Out" liquid paper. He probably deserved a better legacy than The Monkees.

I think I mentioned in another thread that Lady O v.1 saw the Monkees in one of the few concerts where Jimi Hendrix opened. At that age, she held the Monkees in much higher regard than Hendrix. Her taste improved over time, though.

Well, to be fair, I had no idea about Hendrix when I was seeing the Monkees tv show. But I'm comforted to know that both she and I both refined our tastes as time passed.

Jeez, three out of the four.
Saw this tour in 86 in Chicagoland (sans Mike).
Two of their better songs he penned and sang.Nesmith’s pre-Monkees songwriting credits included Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys’ “Different Drum,” and he was the Monkees’ most prolific songwriter, penning classics like “Mary, Mary,” “Papa Gene’s Blues,” “You Told Me,” “You Just May Be the One,” “Listen to the Band,” “Sweet Young Thing,” and “The Girl I Knew Somewhere.”

Never been all that impressed with the Monkees, not since I learned they were actually created out of whole cloth specifically for a TV show of the same name. Unlike the Beatles, whom they tried to emulate, and who were really just four blokes from the west of England (Liverpool) who found they got more action singing together than not. I'm sure the Monkees put out some good tunes, but their start seemed to me to be contrived.

Why do you consistently fail basic comprehension? The story I linked plainly says that the band was contrived. It's called exploitation, or capitalism in more polite circles. Nesmith afforded them a veneer of legitimacy. And I don't expect you to comprehend any of that. But you have no problem commenting on them and adding your two irrelevant cents then getting butthurt when called out about it?
Just checking for future reference so we all know what the rules are.

Something that I find even more detestable is how very often tragically insecure Useless feels compelled to pretend to superiority by telling us all about things that he doesn't like. He should just STFU, instead. We clearly have no respect for his tastes on anything.
