Traveling

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Not far from reality. Mickey's trailer was a good prediction.

Missoula, but not for very long. Then on to Spokane.
Where are you? Have you seen this?

Not too close to Spokane, yet, but upwind might be making the air crappy.

Yeppers. Hazy/smoky, but not as bad as it could be. Or may be. Or was in Idaho when we came through.

BTW, we did take a daytrip cruise down part of your suggested route - 93 down to 12 to Lolo pass. Pretty, but would've been a lot more fun in, for example:

Just in time for the first snows. ;) Maybe skip the convertible for that.

Yeah, we're not counting on the border opening exactly on the 15th, but we are getting reservations for late August/September. Well see.

We've already got a stay scheduled in Anacortes, WA, and we like Fort Steele, BC, so if the border does open we're considering taking the Canada 3 (Crowsnest Highway) across BC. The Crowsnest Pass, at 4,200ish feet is less than half what we've already run into during this trip, but the whole way through BC is pretty hilly and it majorly violates our two-lane/160km rule. Might not work out, but it's on the table.

If anyone is planning on going to Denmark, be sure to catch an episode of this Danish kids tv show about a cartoon character named John Dillermand, whose claim to fame is that he has a huge penis. "Diller" is Danish slang for "penis."

How strange. A children's show about a man with a huge dick? I suppose... for kids before the age of puberty, it's probably hilarious. I remember once asking my dad about such matters. "You'll find out" was his cryptic reply. LOL.

I can imagine the right wing and "Christian" sects protesting this violently while the right wing "Christian" rural pastors sexually abuse nubile young prospects. Same as it ever was.

Yes, but with strings attached. The current rules for Canadian citizens are that if you're fully vaccinated, the quarantine requirement is waived, but you still have to provide a negative test taken within 72 hours prior to entry. That requirement will also apply to Americans. Also, the border guards can randomly (arbitrarily) require travelers to take a molecule(?) test as well. And - even if you're vaxxed and tested, you still have to show a "quarantine plan" just in case something goes wrong. No Canada for us this year. Maybe next.

Bummer.
Do white, well off retirees ever get the arbitrary treatment?
I have never been tested, so definitely can't help you with whatever a "molecule test" is.
Does a full tank of gas, a full hookup campground reservation and 2 weeks of food qualify as an RVer's "quarantine plan"?

We've only been boarded once, and that was several years ago and in a different rig - and crossing from Buffalo. Cheery wave-throughs in Quebec, Alberta, and BC. I have a border-pack that has our passport cards, list of stuff we're not bringing in, vehicle registration/insurance. Generally everything but the passport gets at best a cursory glance. Of course, I'd have the same pack if I had a coach stuffed full of escaped Berzerkerstanis, lawyers, guns, and money, but we do look pretty harmless. Generally more time to get back into the US than to get into Canada.

Your proposed quarantine plan likely would be acceptable.

Here's the info on testing. I've not had a test either. Had no idea.

Good lord peeps. I've been covid tested four times. At least one of those was required by a doc before she would agree to take a look. All tests negative. All tests were free of charge (to me, a least). I believe they all were of the PCR type (what now is called one of the "molecular" tests. Weird term, I guess to mollify the unscientific). These days such tests are a lot harder to find. Probably one can buy a home test kit at the local CVS.

Painted Rocks Seashore in the UP of Lake Superior in Musining Michigan about 40 miles east of Marquette Michigan.

Hiking, biking, kayaking, beaches galore, boating, fishing and just gorgeous.

Highly reccomend.

Purty. Plus, unlike the California coast, fresh water. Is the water of Lake Superior drinkable?

Not without treatment although it appears very clean and pristine thanks to the invasion of Zebra Mussels.

Fun facts, Lake Superior holds 10% of the world's surface fresh water and if you emptied it you could cover North and South America with two feet of water.

Please excuse me for asking, so as not to incur the wrath of the board's OCD monitor.

But, would boiling the water be enough to make it safe? Or does it have toxins from industrial and other discharges as well that would need something like charcoal filtering.

Of course if I wasn't a lazy bones, I suppose I could try to look it up. Please excuse me for asking.

OK Google to the rescue:
Do you drink the lake water?

Lake Superior is the cleanest of the Great Lakes, and many people drink the water regularly (even in their homes). On trip, the decision is yours. For your safety we bring a high quality water filter or boil our water.
https://www.naturallysuperior.com/frequ ... questions/

Of course, the previous is from a recreational business, so perhaps a grain of salt is needed. Most cities and towns appear to treat their water in some fashion.

Can you please send some of that great water to the West Coast?
