Officials in Surry County, North Carolina, voted to remove Coca-Cola machines from all government facilities in response to the beverage company CEO's remarks about Georgia's controversial new voting law.
The ban passed during a Board of Commissioners meeting on May 17 with a 3-2 vote as a direct response to Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey's comments calling the voting law "unacceptable" and "a step backwards."
Commissioner Ed Harris provided "TODAY" Digital with the copy of a letter he sent Quincey, calling out the company's "corporate political commentary favoring the Democratic party" and announcing the decision to remove Coca-Cola machines from government facilities....Democracy-hating Surry County is adjacent to VA, is 90.40% White and votes 3 to 1 Repug.

With only about 72K residents, I'm sure it's less than 20 machines. Coca-Cola has already earned more from the free PR. RepuQ county commissioners just aren't very smart. I'm going to buy a Coke, which I almost never drink, today.
Not related to Surry County and maybe not related to GA, but Coke's pro-democracy position has not hurt it:

Btw, 'KO' is a great market moniker. Pepsi is 'PEP', which is also pretty good.

The only time Coke has fucked up was back when they changed the damn recipe and called it "new." The guy who was responsible now sells electric dog polishers in the remote regions of the Northwest Territory. Or else he's a senior vice president.

Well, while I'm certain the "guy who was responsible" didn't consider the ban as such, this mostly likely is in the best interest of public health.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:28 pmThe only time Coke has fucked up was back when they changed the damn recipe and called it "new." Coca-Cola being about 99% sugar, with 1% made up of caffeine and coal tar based coloring.
The other potential benefit is that Georgia will consider this an act of war.

Let me begin by saying that my remarks are addressed solely towards the 3 Commissioners, including Harris, that voted for the Coca-Cola ban, not towards the wiser minority. This article only IDed where Harris stands.
Let’s look at what the anti-democratic, racist majority has accomplished:
They’ve made Surry County a national laughingstock, an object of scorn and pity;
They’re too stupid to see the hypocrisy in whining about “out-of-control cancel culture” when in fact the Trumpette loser GA Repugs are desperately canceling legit voters, and the Surry County majority just canceled Coca-Cola;
The county is only hurting the local bottler and local vending machine leaser. Shame;
It may be unrelated, but Coke's pro-democracy position has certainly not hurt it:

Coca-Cola has gotten tons of free national PR thanks to you nutjobs. Smart. I don’t drink sodas, but I went out and bought some. The Orange-Vanilla Coke ain’t half bad. Thanks!
If y’all had made it through high school you would have learned that government censors always, always, always lose. Keep up the good work.

Maybe you're right......I think that if I had been the recipient of one of my "eat shit and die" missives, I'd certainly want to respond in some way. And I like to think that the large biohazard warning symbol I put on my door has an effect on who chooses to knock. Actually, the only time I've had to provide my name and address is when I send something to Marsha or Diana, and I feel sure neither of them want anything to do with me. I've actually considered making a trip to one of either of their local offices (neither has an office in my town) just to introduce myself and say something like "remember me?" But I decided that I'd rather be in a car wreck or undergo a second circumcision than enter a goddamn den of fools and boobs.Vrede too wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 12:32 am"never respond"? They're assholes, they get scores of "eat shit and die" missives weekly. Yours are of superior quality, but are not a unique category.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 5:36 amMaybe you're right......I think that if I had been the recipient of one of my "eat shit and die" missives, I'd certainly want to respond in some way. Maybe that's why my notes are tamer. I do give my name and addresses, though my real snail mail address is a POB, partly for situations like this. Learning my physical address probably isn't that hard for the determined, though. I never give out my phone # and just use 555-555-5555 if one is required, or 828-555-5555 if that doesn't work.
I don't visit offices and rarely call, even though I know it's more effective. Midnight graffiti would be tempting.

Yeah, I guess I take a sort of perverse pride in being one of the more prolific, astute, and consistent correspondents to the plethora of idiotic nutjobs I'm forced to read about and deal with on a daily basis. I advise you to not use the 555 phone number; it might be cause for automatic deletion of your comments to whatever nutjob you're trying to disparage. They might be nutjobs but that don't automatically make them stupid regarding other matters. I always give my own phone number and have never gotten a call rebutting my brutal appraisal of whatever it was my brutal appraisal was directed to. But they always have my email address, which they also refuse to take advantage of. I guess they're mostly the same sort of cowards who need a crowd of like minded gullible fools to affirm their own gullibility. But at least they know what I think and how to get in touch with me.

Thanks, I'll take that chance. I wouldn't mind a rebuttal call, but I don't want to get auto-placed on a robocall list. Interesting. We need an overhaul of election and campaign finance law and their enforcement, probably including a constitutional amendment. I'm not holding my breath thanks to Manchin.

Opps. Surry county morons back off their "Coke ban" at least in part because non of the machines or product was actually owned by CocaCola, and instead were owned by "Coca Cola Consolidated" a Charlotte based bottler with no ownership tie to CocaCola company. (And a former client). CCC has a "presence" in Surry county, employing 37 people some of whom would have been adversely affected by the RepuQ "cancellation." Idiots.
