Single hurricane thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The Euro model first predicted that Dorian would stay off the FL coast. Seems like it's always the most accurate. Why do we have other models?

No landfall or maybe Morehead City, NC on Thursday and still a Cat 2?

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Fingers crossed it dissipates into a tropical depression, bee lines towards Greenville, then picks up steam over Lake Hartwell turning into a cat 2 right above my place of work, then promptly turns into a tropical depression again once it leaves the premises. And also lightly drizzles my shitty wannabe lawn for a few days to save me money. And blows the leaves off all of the trees surrounding my property into my neighbors yards so I don't have to rake anything.

You're praying to the wrong god, but you might get that light drizzle.

Landfall Tues morning,
Nope, probably never in the US, but plenty of time to shift back to the west.
supposed to be a Cat 4, but plenty of time to become a Cat 5 still.
Yep.
Dorian closes in on Bahamas as dangerous Category 5 storm

... The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Dorian's maximum sustained winds have increased to 175 mph (280 kph), up from 160 mph (260 kph). It is moving west at 8 mph (13 kph). "Devastating hurricane conditions" are expected in The Abaco Islands early Sunday and across Grand Bahama later in the day, the center said....

Shame for them.

The slow-crawling storm was predicted to take until Monday afternoon to pass over the Bahamas, and then turn sharply and skirt up the U.S. coast, staying just off Florida and Georgia on Tuesday and Wednesday and then buffeting South Carolina and North Carolina on Thursday....

Geez, tidal surge up to 15 feet. That's devastating for the Bahamas, I think the high point on Grand Bahama is only about 40 feet above sea level.

:D So are Whack9's workplace and the WH.

TV news: "2nd strongest storm (after 1935) ever recorded in the Atlantic."

The models are uncertain as to whether AGW increases hurricane frequency, but they agree that it increases hurricane strength.

You could start a religion with whatever higher power you appeal to ;) . Shifted just a little west, Morehead City, NC is also back in the crosshairs.

Mar-a-Lago ... is located in Palm Beach County on the Palm Beach barrier island, with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Florida's Intracoastal Waterway to the west.

It could get swamped by a Cat 4 near miss even without landfall.

Hurricane insurance claim

Trump received a $17 million insurance payment for hurricane damage to Mar-a-Lago after the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, for damage to the “landscaping, roofing, walls, painting, leaks, artwork in the — you know, the great tapestries, tiles, Spanish tiles, the beach, the erosion,” as he described. Anthony Senecal, Trump's former butler at the resort and later its "in-house historian," said some trees behind the resort had been flattened and some roof tiles were lost, but “That house has never been seriously damaged. I was there for all of [the hurricanes].

Not to Gators and, based on you, characters from Orlando ;) .

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

In addition to Florida - South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, will most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated. Looking like one of the largest hurricanes ever. Already category 5. BE CAREFUL! GOD BLESS EVERYONE!
:confusion-scratchheadblue:
Dorian Will Not Hit Alabama and Trump Is Full of Shit, Meteorologists Say

... There’s nothing quite like telling people the biggest hurricane in the history of humankind is headed your way when that’s not the case....
NWS Birmingham
@NWSBirmingham

Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east. #alwx
“DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THIS DUMB PRESIDENT!” they should’ve added....

Trump also said in a meeting with officials from FEMA that he had never heard of a category 5 storm, a claim he’s been making for at least two years.

For example, the headline of this Tampa Bay Times story from September 2017 is: “Trump on Irma: ‘I never even knew a Category 5 existed.’” Yes, he actually said that. In 2017.

According to CNN’s Nikki Carvajal and Manu Raju, “Dorian is the fourth category 5 hurricane to threaten the United States since Trump has taken office.”

God, Trump is dumb. But we already knew that. Just ignore him and stay safe if you’re actually in Dorian’s path.
To be fair, maybe he meant that Alabama is endangered by evacuees from Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia, a frightening prospect for any state.

Toady Newsmax:
Trump Rips ABC Reporter, Defends Hurricane Statement
Donald J. Trump
‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump

Such a phony hurricane report by lightweight reporter @jonkarl of @ABCWorldNews. I suggested yesterday at FEMA that, along with Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, even Alabama could possibly come into play, which WAS true. They made a big deal about this...

....when in fact, under certain original scenarios, it was in fact correct that Alabama could have received some “hurt.” Always good to be prepared! But the Fake News is only interested in demeaning and belittling. Didn’t play my whole sentence or statement. Bad people!
Alabama was NOT threatened by the time he tweeted that it was, hence his own NWS rebuking him. 45SHOLE is being a coward, again.

https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/ ... p=forecast
Weakened to a Cat 2, will stay offshore. Still sucks in the Bahamas - worst ever? - but FL and the rest of the SE seem to have dodged a bullet.

She (and all her types) are idiots. They always have been and always will be. Like a broken gold clock, they do accidentally do good things, but that doesn't change who or what they are.
