It's the economy, stupid.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

International issue, local impacts. Y'all are seeing similar stories wherever you live.
Tariffs take toll on local businesses

Whether you drink it, wear it or cuddle it, some local purchases will cost more, thanks to ongoing tariff threats.

The Trump administration has been launching — and then pausing — tariffs on scores of countries since April, injecting volatility into all global trade. The policies have had a large impact on small businesses that rely on imported goods or goods manufactured domestically with foreign-sourced materials.

As trade policies ripple through the global economy, Asheville shop owners grapple with rising costs and share the tough decisions amid waves of uncertainty....

I suppose there's a chance he'll come around and see what's actually happening. He'll only be paying 15% more for a Honda lawnmower, but he'll be paying at least 25% more for everything he buys that's made in China. Maybe even more than that depending on what kind of mood the buffoon in chief is in. But, damn, the fact that he thinks that a "trade deal" that only results in Americans paying more for imported goods is something to cheer about is astounding.

Big trade deals are beginning to come together. Japan and The Philipines are big pieces. The hand wringing over the tariffs causing inflation is not coming to fruition. I acknowledge I was unaware as to have complicated these trade arrangements are.
You might want to read this description of the "deal" you're cheering for. It's effectively a 650% tax increase on Americans that buy products made in Japan. That increase is what this trade "deal" is.

It hss come to my attention that the cat pan rejects my statement of the recent US/Japan trade "deal." What this deal is, and what the cat pan and the supplicant sales manager fail to grasp is that the new deal is nothing more than an increase of the previous less than 2% tariff rate on Japanese imports to 15% is not a 650% increase in tariff (tax) rate. It's a good illustration of how gullible the cult is. On everything. That is easily able to prove what they believe wrong. Some just have to hit over the head with things before they comprehend them.

While I'm on it, the idiot trump likes to whine that Japan doesn't buy enough American cars. I lived in Japan for over three years. They don't physically have room for everybody to have a car like we do. On top of that, before you can buy a car in Japan you have to prove to the local government that ou have, on your own property, room to park that car. Maybe one in three hundred people have a drivers license in Japan. Nobody needs one. Practially anywhere in the country you can walk to a train station. When the shit finally hits the fan, Japan will be more ready than Americans. We're totally reliant on cars. Meanwhile, trump and his cult wallow, lie, and whine in pathetic ignorance.

Some will never achieve comprehension, as we see here, but it's still fun to (metaphorically) hit them over the head.

I enjoy singing the old "Dem Bones" song when trump and magats demonstrate blatant ignorance. I'll either go with "well, the mouth bone connected to the tail bone" or "well, the foot bone connected to the tail bone" depending on whether its trump being ignorant or a magat being ignorant.
