The car thread ...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Awww. :violin: , Useless. So much for "Ignored". You fail again. Plus, Useless, you've been busted too many times for anyone to believe you're not reading my posts, anyhow. It's just your excuse for cowering. Awww.

That's what I've been telling those Firestone people. I'm beginning to think they're Flintstone people in disguise. But never mind that. Today I opened up a new front in tire wars. Spoke with the boss of the fucktard manager of the local tire store and put the neo on him. At first he was reluctant, as I got "please text me, I'm busy" but after 45 minutes I called back and said "I don't text; if you don't call me back in the next two hours I'll be talking to your boss." Well, about twenty minutes later he called me. We sparred and parried until I finally told him "I'll be willing to drop this if you refund me the price of one of the four tires I bought from your store here in town; the same store that told me Monday that we don't sell Uniroyal tires." He hemmed an hawed about it for about ten minutes. I reminded him that Firestone ended up paying something over 240 million dollars over their 500 and 721 tires back in the 70's. I then told him I'd drop this matter if he refunded me the price of my defective tire that he doesn't sell. I also happened to mention that I had discussed this matter with a guy I went to high school with who is now a district court judge and that the subject of express and implied warranty as it applied to merchants in TN should be of concern to him. He did not know that I had not talked to the judge; but I knew it. Anyway, I told him if you give me $113.99 (the price of one of the four tires I bought) I will drop the matter. He seemed to be receptive to this but I will wait until Monday or Tuesday before I call him back and threaten him with the judge again even though I've not seen the judge since a funeral about two years ago. But never mind that. So, if my two new tires are going to be $359.88 and Michelin pays for 70% of that ($251.91) that leaves $107.97 for me. But if Firestone man comes through as I expect, with the $113.99 refund, my two new tires will cost me nothing and result in a $6.02 windfall. And Useless stupidly asked if I needed math lessons. Hilarious.

At least 5 killed in massive crash involving 20 tractor-trailers

I wonder how many of these $6 million tractor trailers had new tires put on their front wheels...?
At least five people were killed and several more were injured after a crash involving approximately 70 vehicles occurred in Mississippi County, Missouri, on Thursday, local officials said. The crash closed both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 57, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The crash first occurred around 8 a.m,, according to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office. Officials are currently investigating whether foggy conditions present played a role in the pileup.

The Mississippi County Coroner's Office said Thursday that six people died in the crash, but on Friday it lowered the death toll to five.

(moronic whining)
Ironically, wrecks like this add to the cost to the public from semi traffic, the billy.pilgrim point that you've cowered from all along regardless of exact dollar amount. Smart.

And he still can't address the fact that a 90,000 lb. truck requires an entirely different set of construction standards than a car or pickup truck.

Movie car?
It was, but it was originally built after B&C got killed, and it, along with 4 other replicas were toured around the country as "real." The movie producers picked it up in '67 for the (very excellent) Bonnie & Clyde film.

True Story: Bonnie and Clyde got caught and riddled with bullets because somebody put two new tires on the wrong axle. The car spun out in the chase, went sideways, and into a ditch.

Luck is not part of any of this. The fact that the Bridgestone/Firestone area sales manager in Knoxville asked me what my address is at the end of the call leads me to think I've achieved victory. I pointed out to him that if the local store manager had said to me "we don't sell Uniroyal tires" back on April 10, 2017 (as he did last Monday) I would have gone somewhere else and "we wouldn't be having this conversation." And I can still go over his head to the national sales guy if I have to. I tend to think that if I were the national sales director for Firestone, I would wonder why neither the local store manager or the regional sales manager would decline to resolve a customer complaint amounting to little more than a hundred dollars. I anticipate victory.

Yesterday morning I was reading a story about a 1963 Corvair Rampside van. A real quirky looking rig. Anyway, the thing is for sale on the "Bring a Trailer" auction site. I checked it out and they had hundreds of cars on it; some well into six digit prices. One of my favorites was a 1967 Thunderbird. Classy. I think it was about $6,000

Sweet. The one I saw was a drab green color and needed restoration. That one there is nice. For the T birds, I like anything from about 1960 to 69.
