Me too, and I hope my own funeral can be a celebration as well. I may be walking into something here.....

Michelle sure doesn't look too happy... maybe Obama was flirting with that blonde bit.

Mandela was a hero. He is due admiration and respect. But he's essentially be "gone" for quite a while, and expected to pass on for several months now. What do you expect - sackcloth and ashes? Renten garments? Wailing and gnashing of teeth? Is a selfie at one of the most significant events of a decade or more really all that awful? That being said, Michelle really did look less than happy. I'm guessing the blonde was flirting with Obama and dangerously close to a bad PR pic. Opps.

So typical of blind, gullible Americans. While they focus on Obama doing a
selfie with some hot dame, they don't notice he's shaking the hand of a
damn commie, and not just any damn commie, but a 90 miles away damn
commie. Damn, he's shaking Raul Castro's hand, damn he's shaking RAUL
CASTRO's HAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That will likely be the most enjoyable aspect of this--driving the nutters
crazy, not that McCain's a nutter. So by his lights, this means that Castro
will........invade Poland? It's a memorial service, why not be polite and shake
the guy's hand. This reminds me of another, mostly forgotten "outrage," when
Obama shook Chavez's hand and Chavez gave him a book. Yes that had major
world shaking significance. OTOH, maybe Raul better be careful.

The original photo just goes to show that not everything is rotten in the state
of Denmark.

Says a lot about a person as to whether they see a memorial as celebrating a life or celebrating a death. I think we can see where the OP stands on that.

I can't believe the Repubs made such a fuss over BHO shaking Castro's hand. Personally, despite Castro's station in life, for BHO to just walk by and ignore him would be seen as rude and unbecoming conduct from a world leader.

BTW, Bungalow Bill, you failed to mention BHO's bowing down in your photo post....maybe Castro is a short little fellow?
At any rate, somebody is going to scream about it......somewhere.

Well the memorial was at Soweto stadium.. perhaps Obama and Castro were standing on different levels.. other photos of the pair show less of a difference .. . but I do realize that to simpleminded wingnuts "that" picture is as far as they will examine the details.. it fits their prejudices....

I have no doubt that at some of the "finer" nutjob sites, they are going
ballistic over the handshake and the "bow," which simply looks like a taller
guy bending over a little to make eye contact with a shorter guy.

Back in the day, when apartheid was still the law of the land, Israel and
South Africa had relatively friendly relations, since both were outcasts and
likely had other interests in common.

I don't know if Boorbi's attendance would have made much of a
difference, and I'm not sure if he was even PM back then. I don't
really know what the relationship is like now.

Clinton, still slick after all these years.

Tuesday's event was not a funeral......but it was related to the funeral. I thought the leaders were there to pay their respects.
No wonder Michelle was put off, she'd never seen a memorial service where they were celebrating. Obama? He's used to it being from Africa and all.

Ain't you special. Although I admired him, I don't think Mandela would consider his life well lived.

Calling a black man a buck is a compliment. It signifies strong, large built physique, and of courage.
Of course through your squinted eyes you couldn't tell the difference. You see what you want to see.

Sounds like your admiration was more a physical attraction than anything else.

To a lame-brained liberal like your self, it wouldn't. What he accomplished in life is admirable, but spending years in prison is not living, it's existing.
Fortunately, he toughed it out to see his life's dream accomplished.

And you've never heard a black call another a nigger, nor heard a black call a bothersome black child a pick-a-ninny. But since I said the words, you go all ape shit with your racist slant. Stupid ass.
