Here Comes Romney-Biden

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Here Comes Romney-Biden

Unread post by rstrong »

This election will be close. It may be that neither candidate will win the majority (270) of Electoral College votes to become president.

Or Obama could in theory win the majority, but an elector or two may change their vote. Remember the prevailing theme of the last four years - from Guantanamo to Iraq to going to war without Congress's permission to not releasing birth certificates and college records - has been "It only became wrong when a Democrat was elected."

There have been nine cases of "faithless electors" in the past 16 elections. And in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 elections, many of the electors were lobbied to consider changing their vote. With corporate lobbying bringing vastly more money into this election, that lobbying will be vastly stronger.

According to the 12th Amendment, if neither candidate gets a majority of Electoral College votes, the House of Representatives decide who becomes President. The Republicans, who will probably keep a majority in the House, would choose Romney as president.

The Senate then decides who becomes vice-president. If after the election it's still controlled by the Democrats, Biden would become vice-president. Even if the Senate is split, Biden, as vice-president and head of the Senate, would cast the deciding vote.

And so even with faithless electors, "democratically", the Republicans will point out, with power being "shared", "it's only fair", you get a Romney-Biden administration. Naturally Biden would expected to not contradict the President, for the good of the country.

Any predictions on what follows?

Riots in the streets.

Seriously, you raise an interesting point. For a Canadian, you know more about the system than most U.S. citizens.

I cannot see Biden getting the a majority of Senate votes. He is a known idiot even among Democrats.

Golly gee! After Biden's clear win in the VP debate, I'd hate to see what the Senate thinks of Ryan!

Yup, I'm a Canadian, living in Winnipeg. (I did spend about 45 minutes in U.S. airspace earlier this month, and two more times a month before.)

Truth be told, I only read about that aspect of the 12th amendment yesterday.

Biden will smile the hair right off of Romney. It won't take four years to do it either.

For those who were not a participant in the BRN forum, rstrong is a liberal who calls himself a conservative. That and and he thinks Biden won the VP debate should tell you something.

Riiiiiiiiight.

This may come as a surprise to you, but thinking that the Bush II/Cheney/Rove/Rumsfeld Presidency did a great job, does not make you a conservative. Just the opposite, in fact.

Thinking that Sarah Palin was gosh-darned awesome presidential material, does not make you a conservative. Just the opposite, in fact.

Thinking that Santorum, Bachmann, Perry and the rest are right to insist on turning America into a theocracy, does not make you a conservative. Just the opposite, in fact.

Agreeing with Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, does not make you a conservative. Just the opposite, in fact.

Clapping and barking like a trained seal every time Donald Trump opens his mouth, does not make you a conservative. Just the opposite, in fact.

Ryan had ONE job in that debate, and that was to not look like a lying weasel. He failed badly, trying to top the Lies Per Minute of his acceptance speech.

Ignoring this does not make you a conservative. Just the opposite, in fact.

What prey tell makes me a "liberal?" (Other than favoring liberty, obviously. But that would also make me libertarian.)

It's not what one admits rstrong it's what one's position is on every political subject that was on the old BRN forum and you are doing the same thing on this forum.

You have yet to take a conservative position on anything and you are still in the blame Bush mode like the other libs.

So tell us what makes you a conservative since you are so vocal on what doesn't make one a conservative.

So my positions remain the same and doesn't change with the venue or government? How.... conservative.

You first, since it's your accusation. What makes me so non-conservative?

(With so many subjects talked about, there's bound to be a non-conservative position or two. The same can be said for Cheney, Bachmann, Santorum and many other prominant Republicans. Romney of course has all the positions covered.)

There are plenty of people that wrap themselves in one label or another but hardly espouse the ideology. The people I see do this the most are liberals that work with a bunch of conservatives. I'm sure the reverse is true depending in vocations.

Examples: Romney, expousing any and every position as needed. Or Bush II, Cheney, Rove, Rice, Cain, Bachmann, Perry and others who support America being turned into a torture state, and yet claim to be conservatives and Christians.

Are YOU a conservative? Does your "There are plenty of people" statement not apply equally to you? Especially if you happen to support Romney?
