I forgot to mention. The “Firefighters Busted Looking at Porn on County Computers.” was one of my muni clients. The actual incident was grossly overblown by by local newschicks, but it did cause a lot of grief for everyone. Firefighters eating at a local restaurant got ridiculed by other patrons. Investigations were done. Harummphs were said. Minor disciplinary actions were filed. Nobody's head rolled. Lawyers got paid. All is well.

No, they ain't. But firefighters do have a sense of camaraderie like the cops' "thin blue line." They tend to think they're "brothers" and not just co-workers. Works pretty well, too, especially for encouraging and maintaining IAF membership. IAF is a good union - and this coming from somebody who negotiates for management.GoCubsGo wrote:Girls Gone Wild they ain't.

First responders should have good unions, they are mostly underpaid and especially if it keeps up the quality and training. We all depend on them.
Sadly, like all professions, there will be a few bad apples.

They should indeed. As should other public employees like teachers and cops. They face issues private employees don't - like the possibility of being fired because some citizen complained that they scratched their car while issuing a ticket, or taught their kid to do actual research before accepting some magical mystical explanation of the universe. Private employees don't usually get fired over political issues. Public employees without a union frequently do.GoCubsGo wrote:First responders should have good unions, they are mostly underpaid and especially if it keeps up the quality and training. From the perspective of someone who negotiates on behalf of management, I would absolutely join and support IAF if I were a firefighter, or a teachers' union or IUPA or IPA if I was a cop.
