Conservative Frum explains why Republicans lost

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Conservative Frum explains why Republicans lost

Unread post by Stinger »

Conservative David Frum hits the nail on the head.
"Republicans have been fleeced and exploited and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex."
http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/201 ... 49120.html

The "conservative entertainment complex" -- providing Kool Aid for wingnuts since Rush Limbaugh picked up a microphone.

How can Republicans make successful real-world strategies when living in an alternative Bizarro world?

Frum has been saying this since long before the election too. His book on the subject was ready to hit the book stores as soon as the election was over.

It did.

Now, do we blame the "conservative entertainment complex" for misleading the wingnuts, or do we blame the wing nuts for begging for it and for falling for it day after day after day ad infinitum?

That would be "B". Although I would phrase it as "thank the wing nuts" instead of "blame," I don't fault the entertainers at all. They do what's successful for them. But one of the reasons there hasn't been a successful left-side "limbaugh" is that for Limbaugh to be as successful as he has been for as long as he has been, he has to have true believers. People who don't consider him an entertainer. People who consider him to be a source of political wisdom. So 20 million weekly listeners sounds like a lot of people, but it's about the same number as watches American Idol in one night. Those people aren't the ones who cost Romney the election. They voted for him in droves. But the people who should have known better - who should have known that an elected sitting President has only been booted twice in 80 years - who should have known that ALL the polls can't be tools of the left wing media - who should have known that the Republicans had long lost the black vote, rapidly losing the hispanic vote, and were dropping female support with every "opps" by the Akins of the world - those people still believed the "limbaughs." For that bit of irresponsible idiocy, I thank them sincerely from the bottom of my little Democratic heart.

I can spot a Faux Noise viewer and and a Limbaugh listener or a Breitbart reader from a mile away simply by the way they speak of President Obama.

They're never right but they believe they are.

Sad ... I feel sorry for them.

These sad, misinformed people have been shown to have less command of the facts on issues than those who watch, or listen to, or read, nothing at all.

The GOP should be ashamed of their misleading and misinformed "news" representatives.

I doubt that'll ever happen, though.

Just face it. The whole nation is aware why Democrats swept the election. There were so many well informed.....

This just might make your day a little brighter!! You, who worry about
Democrats versus Republicans--relax, here is our real problem.

In a Purdue University classroom, they were discussing the qualifications to
be President of the United States. It was pretty simple. The candidate must
be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years of age.

However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement
to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was that this requirement
prevented many capable individuals from becoming president. The class was
taking it in and letting her rant, but many jaws hit the floor when she
wrapped up her argument by stating "What makes a natural born citizen any
more qualified to lead this country than one born by C-section?"

And they walk among us!
And they reproduce!
And they are the ones that voted to re-elect Obama!

Knowing the state of our leftist higher education system, nothing surprises me and it is all possible.

so, you are saying that your envy of an education and your hate for the educated explains how you can be so easily fooled

What is that state, Super-S? Are you saying Purdue isn't a quality university? Give us a list of the top 100, or however many you want, and tell us which ones don't provide superb educational opportunity.

In a Newsweek column, Frum described his political beliefs as follows:

I'm a conservative Republican, have been all my adult life. I volunteered for the Reagan campaign in 1980. I've attended every Republican convention since 1988. I was president of the Federalist Society chapter at my law school, worked on the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal and wrote speeches for President Bush—not the "Read My Lips" Bush, the "Axis of Evil" Bush. I served on the Giuliani campaign in 2008 and voted for John McCain in November. I supported the Iraq War and (although I feel kind of silly about it in retrospect) the impeachment of Bill Clinton. I could go on, but you get the idea.[28]

Frum supported John McCain in the 2008 Presidential election, writing "I vote for John McCain

Yet another person who thinks that the be "conservative", you need to be a Palin/Limbaugh/Santorum/Bachmann/Beck/Faux News wingnut.

"Conservative" and "crazy" are two different words. Look them up.
