In 2012, the president also proposed hiking fees for military personnel and veterans who receive benefits under the program in an effort to help cut the defense budget. His proposal drew significant fire from Republican lawmakers and veterans' groups.

To the uniformed, Tricare is health insurance for both active duty and retired Veterans and yes there are premiums involved.

I also have a semi-serious question about item #3: If I send my kid to private school, I'm paying full freight for the cost of doing so, plus - paying the same as everybody else to support the public school system which I'm not using. In what alternate universe of logic would I support using my tax money to send someone else's kid to a school that I'm paying full price out of pocket for?

Sorry. His budget requests have consistently raised the VA budgets. He's not cutting the VA budget now. He's proposing to raise it. He did propose the TRICARE fee and a pharmacy co-pay as deficit-cutting measures, but he proposed yet another increase for the VA budget.

Obama's budget request for VA amounts to double -- in real terms -- the amount spent in 1980 when there were a third more veterans.
