F**king American music

Unread post by Limier than most »

Can I just say, thanks for Tom Petty, Iggy, Guns n Roses (apart from Slash, he's ours), Bob Dylan, half of Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, Green Day, Blondie, John Lee Hooker, Lynrd, Beck, Laurie Anderson and a thousand others, but can you please keep your rap, your Bieber and your crappy RnB please, thanks.

Signed A. Englishman.

You're welcome. Thanks for the British Invasion. Bieber is Canadian - YOU and your Queen own him - and no RnB = no Rock and Roll.

Whooooaaaaaaa wait a second now.

I'm gonna post some hip-hop. It's not all that bad. But in all fairness, to each their own. If you you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it.

I can't believe rap has been around for 30ish years, and I still don't care for it. I don't claim Beiber, whether during my Canadian summer or US winter.
And "Rhythm and Blues" is nothing like real Blues.

Yeah, thanks for Beatles, Stones, Who, Led Zeppelin, Bowie. And you're welcome for Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Beach Boys, and Wayne Newton. Not to mention Bo Diddly, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Leadbelly. Rap is not even on my list of things to recognize.

It would appear you don't need American rappers, as you grow enough of your own...

Ok check it. Tell me these beats aren't catchy. It's all instrumental:

Easing our way into lyrics:

We can go wayyyyy back to some roots with some Afrobeat with Nigerian musician Fela Kuti:

Sorry guys, I love some hip hop and always gotta try and spread the good word.

Not a big fan of newer hip hop personally. I'm big on beats and seamless flow which the new stuff seems to be lacking in.

The beats in a lot of the above is what's called "Boom Bap". There's also a lot of real good instrumental boom bap mixes on YouTube that are good to relax to.

No hate if you're not feeling it. We all have our own tastes in music.

BBC radio 6 is available on that "internet" thing I believe is widely available these days.

It is rather good, and to my delight doesn't over-emphasise this rap and hip hop stuff. Ain't a youth station.

Iggy's "confidential" is syndicated on it; if i say it's not the best show, this might give an idea of the standard.

I liked the first Pete Rock OK, but I found the sound of the dominant beat to be distracting and too loud for the rest of the track.

I liked the Fela Kuti a lot. Had a smooth jazzy feel, like you might find in some smoky jazz club back in 40's or so. Blend that one with some mellow-making product of some sort and turn it up.

Fela Kuti has some pretty good stuff. If you liked that, you might like some of Mark Farinas Mushroom Jazz mixes. He remixes a bit, blends them together for a really good compilation. It's really good background music. Best when listened to from start to finish rather than as individual songs. Here's a handful of songs
Mostly all instrumental:

Mushroom Jazz:

The Jazzual Suspects is another good one. The focus is on jazz remixes like Mark Farinas:

Thievery Corporation. Found these guys when exploring some of the above.

This is unrelated to the genres above, but have you guys ever heard of Rodriguez? He released a bunch of stuff back in the 70s, fell into Oblivion, and for some odd reason became incredibly popular in South Africa decades later, totally unbeknownst to him. a documentery was made about it. He's got some good tunes.

Mushroom Jazz: ...
Irrelevant tangent: I can buy mushrooms at the grocery, watch references to them on TV and savor them in my meals. However, thanks to Stormy I can't see the word in print without thinking of 45SHOLE's dick  .

Canadian export, yes, with the emphasis on "export" with no return address. And not entirely Canadian anymore, apparently, having sought dual citizenship.

Most of my life I haven't been much of a jazz fan, but Lady O is. Anyway, on an "Alexa, play smooth jazz" venture, I ran across "Dr. Saxlove." If you like mellow...

Hey now, wait just a Mormon.

With all doo respect, Bieber is a CANADIAN export.

Please don't blame the USA for his horror.

When did Canada gain full independence?

Could be that the bieber is actually English.
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

1 July 1867 Canada officially became a sovereign country. Thus the celebration of "Canada Day" on July 1.

Canada and UK do share a Queen, however. But I don't think England is going to accept Bieber.
